Educating, preparing, and empowering teen mothers and their children.

About us

Florence Crittenton Services pioneered a nationally recognized trauma-responsive two-generation program model that helps teen families break the cycle of poverty through education, health and wellness, and economic and social asset building. Our campus is a full-service family resource center that includes an Early Childhood Education (ECE) Center, the Alethia E. Morgan, MD Health Center, and, through our 36-year partnership with Denver Public Schools, the on-site Florence Crittenton High School. On our new campus, we have extended our programming to offer services for teen families year round. We are part of the Ascend Network, a prestigious group of two-generation approach leaders and organizations working to influence practice and policy change, and we were instrumental in establishing the Colorado Teen Parent Collaborative, a statewide group of organizations which raises public awareness, shares resources, and advocates for public policy to benefit teen parents and their children. Our mission is to educate, prepare, and empower teen mothers and their children. We break the cycle of poverty for two generations–teen mother and child–through education, health and wellness, and economic and social asset building. Our trauma-informed, two-generation service model more than doubles the national high school graduation rate of teen mothers and ensures that their children are kindergarten-ready.

  • Education leads to empowerment, and in just TWO DAYS, we'll be celebrating the educational achievements of FloCrit families at the 19th Annual Miles for Moms Run/Walk/Roll! FloCrit teen moms are 2.5 times more likely to graduate high school compared to the national average graduation rate for girls who became pregnant before age 18. This success is possible because FloCrit parents have access to essential resources like affordable childcare, stable housing, healthcare, mental health support, and more, all while earning their degree. Meet the families behind the mission THIS SATURDAY by registering for Miles for Moms today: https://bit.ly/4cLDPGG

  • Jordan enrolled at Florence Crittenton Services at 17, seven months pregnant with her daughter, Amora. After graduating in May 2023, Jordan needed a safe and stable place to live before she could focus on her future and continue her education. With support from FloCrit Housing, Jordan and Amora were placed in an apartment at Nest56, a supportive housing complex in Denver by TGTHR to end youth homelessness When they moved in, the FloCrit Housing Team equipped Jordan and Amora with essential furniture items. "They provided a lot," Jordan shared. "Almost everything you need for your new apartment." Since moving into her own place, Jordan has noticed a significant improvement in her mental health. “My mental health has definitely gotten better," she says. "I felt just drained when I was trying to find housing, I felt hopeless, I didn’t know what my next move was going to be or what was going to happen in my life. Now, I feel like I don’t have to be dependent on everybody, so it makes me feel a lot happier—less depressed, less anxious about everything." By donating to the FloCrit Housing Basic Needs Store, you provide teen families with the essentials they need to create the safe, stable homes that support their goals and aspirations. • Johandra had already begun her journey out of Venezuela, seeking a better life, when she became pregnant at 13 years old. After Mattias was born, her mother, sister, and baby Mattias started their trek to the USA with just $100. For five months, they pressed on through South and Central America, traversing jungles, riding mules, and jumping onto moving trains until they reached the Rio Grande. “I had to keep thinking about crossing into the United States” Johandra explains, “This was my main goal. We didn’t want to be caught by immigration, kidnappers, drug cartels, or any other kind of people. So we had to keep going.” As Mattias turned one year old, Johandra held her son tightly while crossing the Rio Grande, hoping for a better future in the USA. When Johandra found Florence Crittenton Services, she found a welcoming place that provided community and support. The Housing Team helped them find an affordable place to live, and the Student & Family Support Program continues to offer resources like one-on-one case management, bi-weekly food boxes, a free basic needs store, and bilingual therapy. At Florence Crittenton Services, the number of teen moms who are Newcomers has tripled in the past year. Johandra’s journey is one of 20 Newcomer teen moms at FloCrit, each representing two generations at risk who deserve a bright future. Our mission is to “educate, prepare, and empower teen moms and their children,” welcoming every teen mom who seeks support, regardless of their background. Through community support and strategic decisions, FloCrit has transformed into the right place for these 20 teen families, offering comprehensive services that have grown in the past five years to meet the needs of our community. This support gives people like Johandra and her son, Mattias, a chance to have futures that would have been unfathomable in Venezuela. We are proud to impact multiple generations of teen families like Johandra’s, empowering them to build the lives they want and deserve. • Financial Empowerment with U.S. Bank! FloCrit Class of 2024 graduates had the opportunity to set up their financial future with the help of US Bank last month. The team from US Bank provided personalized support to each mom, guiding them through the process of opening checking and savings accounts. Thanks to a grant partnership with US Bank, we were also able to provide all graduates with a check to mobile deposit into each account! To top it all off, US Bank brought their Good Truck, serving delicious ice cream from Nuggs Ice Cream and a fantastic taco bar from Taco River for FloCrit seniors. The FloCrit Junior Board also held their senior laptop giveaway, equipping teen moms with access to personal computers. Thank you, US Bank, for helping us break down barriers to banking accessibility for FloCrit teen families!
