First Northern is a not-for-profit organization, leading the way in northern Illinois since 1944. We're owned and operated by our members, the people who save and borrow money here. Because we have no outside stockholders, our members earn higher dividends on savings, pay lower rates on loans, and appreciate reduced or eliminated fees, plus improved service. Established in 1944, we initially served Commonwealth Edison Company employees and their families as their company credit union, then known as Edison Credit Union. Today, we've grown to serve communities and companies throughout northern Illinois while maintaining our grassroots commitment to our ComEd beginnings. Because of them, we've grown to become one of the largest, healthiest, and most progressive credit unions in the state.

Since May, our Rockford branch and Mortgage Services office have been selling "sunshine" for $1 to benefit Rock House Kids. If you have been through our drive-thru, you've most likely been offered the chance to donate from one of our amazing tellers. With the efforts of Ventura, Jen, Lettie, the rest of the Rockford branch and Mortgage Services we've been able to collect an astounding $1700 for this great local cause. The last day to donate was August 31st, but you can probably tell that we were running out of room! We're proud of the support we can show to our Rockford community thanks to the generosity of our members.

Congratulations to both our Rockford branch and Mortage Services for making What Rocks Rockford's Top Three for Best Credit Union and Best Mortgage Lending Company. Yesterday was the last day of our donation drive for Rock House Kids, at both of our Rockford locations. We are very excited to get the final numbers from the branch and mortgage office, but until we have those figures - anyone want to take a guess? A huge thank you to Ventura in our drive thru teller line. She’s done an amazing job with encouraging donations. (As you can see!) Thank you to our generous members, too! Without you, we wouldn’t be able to provide this much support to a great local cause. We will be sure to give an update on the donation amount soon!
