  • In response to the devastating #earthquake in #Myanmar, we have initiated an emergency cash grant to Atutu to support rapid renewable logistics in the Mandalay region, Sagaing region and Shan State. We are also providing remote, in-kind advisory support for their disaster program development, fundraising and resource gathering. With trained, local team members and six years of on-the-ground experience deploying solar microgrids in Myanmar, Atutu is well positioned to support new, emergency energy access needs in this complex humanitarian crisis. Last year, we funded Atutu to deploy a mobile solar microgrid to power a resettlement camp serving over 1000 people seeking refuge from the ongoing conflict. As they regain connectivity, check on existing microgrid projects, and rapidly deploy new ones, we will share their updates from the field. FOR FUNDERS: If you would like to support Atutu's response, please reach out to them directly, or contact us at give@footprintproject.org. They are a small team and we are happy to share their plans/budgets to reduce traffic and let them focus on the real work. FOR TECHNOLOGY PARTNERS: If you would like to donate renewable power, water or shelter technologies, please contact them or us with spec sheets, quantities, and locations pre-prepared to reduce the coordination burden. FOR RESPONSE PARTNERS: If you are sending a response team, planning to power your mission with fossil fuel generators, and would like to explore renewable alternatives, please reach out to response@footprintproject.org. With Atutu's local team and tech, plus our financial model, we are well-equipped to #decarbonize your response. #myanmarearthquake #disasterresponse #solar #humanitarian

Our mission is to dismantle energy inequities in marginalized and indigenous communities. And this mission will be more crucial than ever as Myanmar's communities recover and rebuild from the recent devastating earthquakes. Our team at Atutu is committed to bringing solar energy access to those impacted by the earthquakes in Myanmar. We have local knowledge and expertise that allow us to reach the most hard-to-reach communities. We will electrify emergency shelters, command centers, community infrastructure, mobile clinics, and other critical community services to ensure communities can equitably rebuild and rest safely. But we really cannot do this alone. We need long-term partners, funders, and supporters who will take on this fight alongside us. Please, we invite you to join us. Go to www.atutu.org to learn more on how to join our effort. #Myanmar #earthquake #DisasterResponse #HumanitarianAid #SolarEnergy #CleanEnergy #CleanWater #Healthcare #response

  • We're kicking off spring with our friends at Galvez Garden, a community project that aims to fight blight, promote shared community spaces, and serve as a teaching garden where neighbors are welcomed to learn about composting, growing vegetables, native landscaping, stormwater management solutions, and other permaculture projects on site! During our visit to the garden yesterday, we delivered a portable solar generator and solar panel that will power their greenhouse to help cool plants off in the summertime as well as other power needs in the garden. We're excited to partner with Galvez Gardens to support sustainable urban vegetable gardening, education, and shared resources that benefit our community. A huge thank you to Elisabeth Stewart, M.Ed. for all of her hard work and for welcoming Footprint Project to be a part of supporting local resilience #FootprintProject #ClimateTech #CleanEnergy #SustainableRecovery #CommunitySupport #RenewableEnergy #DisasterRecovery

  • Since October 15th, 2024, our mobile microgrid system powered an incredible volunteer work camp in Pensacola, a community in Western North Carolina located along the Cane River that experienced devastating flooding from Hurricane Helene. After five months of tireless efforts to rebuild roads and bridges, muck out homes, relocate RVs, and provide fuel and propane to people in the community, the volunteer camp is now shifting gears and locations. Our local team recently demobilized the mobile microgrid system and donated the solar panels to a nearby resident whose solar array was damaged in the days after Helene. At Footprint Project, our temporary, mobile microgrids are meant to go up quickly after a disaster, stay up to power relief and recovery efforts, demobilize and remobilize where they’re needed next, and leave breadcrumbs toward community resilience. Thank you to our partners Land-of-Sky Regional Council and NC Sustainable Energy Association! If your facility or organization would like to be considered for receiving microgrid support to power long term recovery and resilience efforts in disaster-affected areas of North Carolina, please visit this link and fill out the form: https://lnkd.in/gqJv4Aza #FootprintProject #ClimateTech #CleanEnergy #SustainableRecovery #CommunitySupport #RenewableEnergy #DisasterRecovery

  • Partnering with local students at Sci High in New Orleans to teach them the basics of building solar generators while they learn hands-on about renewable energy has been one of the most rewarding projects we’ve worked on to date. The students we’ve worked with are engaged and interested in learning about how solar technology works and what things they can power with it. We’ve seen microgrids improve lives all around the world after disasters and we’re proud to play a role in passing this knowledge to the next generation. The generators that these students helped to build will go on to support orgs and places in need throughout the community of the students’ choosing. The first generator will support power needs at the John Thompson Legacy Center/Solitary Gardens, a space dedicated to mutual aid and supporting those most impacted by the criminal punishment system and helping them to thrive. A huge thank you to New Orleans Charter Science and Math High School & Sci High Physics teacher Jimmy Luttrell for allowing us into his classroom, partnering with us on this and merging this program into his curriculum. We’re looking forward to continuing this journey at Sci High for more students in the future and empowering the next generation of solar innovators! #FootprintProject #ClimateTech #CleanEnergy #SustainableRecovery #CommunitySupport #RenewableEnergy #DisasterRecovery

  • Our Founder and Operations Director, Will Heegaard, will be a featured panelist at today’s RE+ Events Microgrids event, where they’ll dive into how equitable access to microgrids can help solve energy disparities in historically underserved communities and play a vital role in emergency response and community resilience, particularly as extreme weather events and climate change heighten the need for reliable, independent energy systems. We are excited to be a part of this important conversation and for the opportunity to connect with fellow innovators in the microgrid industry!

  • A few weeks ago, we supplied a solar generator system to a woman in North Carolina who has been living in an RV since her home was severely damaged by a tree during Hurricane Helene. While the area she’s located in has grid power, her RV remains without utility access - an incredibly common challenge faced by many. Even when the grid is restored after a disaster, oftentimes certain sites still lack connections due to flooding damage, landowner restrictions, or distance from utility hookups. This is a challenge we see in every disaster and is a reminder that even when the grid comes back online, that does not mean everyone that was impacted by a storm or disaster has access to it. Our work in North Carolina is far from over and we’re thankful to have the resources and tools required to help fill in gaps like these to meet the needs of community members who still don’t have access to reliable or consistent power. #FootprintProject #ClimateTech #CleanEnergy #SustainableRecovery #WNC #HurricaneRelief #CommunitySupport #RenewableEnergy #FreeStore #DisasterRecovery

  • We’re excited to collaborate with Imagine Water Works to reimagine the future through the fusion of art, science, and connection. Recently, we teamed up to install a solar generator at The Imagination Farm, which will help power daily operations at their mutual aid hub. This will also ensure they can continue distributing essential resources during power outages caused by storms or disasters. Looking ahead, they plan to expand their solar setup, moving closer to their goal of reducing reliance on the grid while still supporting community resilience projects. We’re proud to support their efforts in strengthening local mutual mutual aid initiatives and creating spaces for resource sharing. A huge thank you to Klie and Ben for their dedication, and hard work! #FootprintProject #ClimateTech #CleanEnergy #SustainableRecovery #CommunitySupport #RenewableEnergy #DisasterRecovery
