Wildfires are burning larger and hotter than ever, wiping out forests faster than we can regrow them. As reforestation needs soar, our national seed bank is running dangerously low. Restoring 24 million acres of forest in the Western U.S—an area nine times the size of the Grand Canyon national park—will take an estimated 2.2 million pounds of seeds. Our nursery, Silvaseed Company, has already tripled seed supply across the West but seed collection and processing are labor-intensive. To scale up, we need more investment. When you invest in Mast’s restorative carbon removal credits, you’re funding reforestation today, helping remove carbon, and ensuring we have the seed supply to meet future challenges. Making reforestation scalable.
About us
Mast Reforestation is a climate tech company with a mission to make reforestation scalable. As bigger, hotter, and more frequent fires increasingly destroy forested land each year, Mast facilitates faster, more resilient forest regeneration. Mast provides vertically integrated reforestation services to get forest restoration projects up and running in weeks, not years. Services include seed collection, seedling cultivation, site preparation, seedling hand planting, aerial drone-based seeding, and ongoing site monitoring. To fund its projects and open new revenue streams for landowners, Mast sells carbon removal credits that allow companies seeking positive climate action to invest in reforestation projects for 200 years or more. Mast’s investors include Alexis Ohanian’s Seven Seven Six, Social Capital, DBL Partners, Marc Benioff’s TIME Ventures, Elemental Excelerator, and more. To learn more, visit MastReforest.com.

Why are we burying burned, dead trees? The burned woody biomass left behind after severe wildfires is fuel for future fires. Landowners often stockpile and burn what’s left behind to reduce this risk. Burying burned logs removes the carbon that these trees sequestered over their lifetimes––generating near-term carbon removal credits that also finance reforestation. We're developing biomass burial projects specifically in areas that experienced high tree mortality from severe wildfire. Your carbon purchase will help make way for these restored forests to thrive. This bladed tool–called a hoedad–is common in any forester’s toolkit. The hoedad is used to plant seedlings, and can also aid in fire suppression. It’s designed for efficiency, with a long wooden handle and sharp blade that pierces soil with relative ease. The hoedad is such a ubiquitous forestry tool that it became the namesake of a 1960s counterculture reforestation movement called “The Hoedads.” These photos are taken at our Sheep Creek reforestation project. The hidden cost of post-wildfire reforestation: site prep. Charred trees act as matchsticks, fueling future fires, and pushing landowners to clear dead wood from their land. In remote areas, where hauling unmerchantable logs is costly, the default solution has often been to burn piles of these dead trees. While this reduces fire risk, it also releases greenhouse gases and degrades air quality. Fortunately, there is a solution: biomass burial. Our team buries fire-killed trees in oxygen-deprived chambers, locking away carbon and effectively removing it from the atmosphere cycle. Our biomass burial project is starting soon: https://lnkd.in/dgA8NvC4

Extreme wildfires are driving up the need for reforestation while worsening the national seed shortage. Without a robust seed bank, we can’t restore the forests that play a critical role in mitigating climate change. The Western U.S. needs 1.3 billion seedlings every year to keep up with reforestation demands. That’s like every person in the U.S. planting 4 trees—today. To meet this, our nursery Silvaseed Company is leveraging new technology and innovations to scale up seed collection, processing, and planting. Time is running out. Investing in Mast’s restorative carbon removal credits directly supports the seed supply needed to regrow Western forests. Learn how we’re solving the national seed crisis: https://lnkd.in/dfBH-w5f
