Mental Health Care

We are stronger together

About us

The problem: - 1-in-5 children today struggle with mental health - 50% of them do not receive care. Those that do, face: - Average wait times of 3.5 months (in states with higher availability) - High out of pocket costs - Inconsistent quality (only 20% of behavioral health care is evidence-based) Our solution: A partnership model that brings pediatricians, parents, providers and payers together. The benefits: 1. For pediatricians: refer directly in less than 90 seconds for therapy and psychiatry appointments typically within 7 days. 2. For parents and caregivers: learn how to support your child’s healing with coaching 3. For providers and therapists: training in evidence-based care developed by the Child Mind Institute and removal of all admin tasks. 4. For payors: targeted-care based on clinically validated scales. Our mission, and the outcome of these partnerships: Open more paths to better care for more families. Our unshakable belief: We are stronger together. What we’re looking for: Partners.

It's 5 pm ET on World Mental Health Day, are you a therapist working late? Therapist burnout is real, prevalent and under-discussed. Over 50% of therapists and 36% of psychologists surveyed reported burnout in 2023. Maintaining work/life balance is especially difficult for therapists treating children and adolescents: 80%+ of the appointment requests we get at Fort Health are for the hours between 3 pm - 8:30 pm. So today, and every other day, let's raise awareness not just for mental health and gaps in patient care but also for therapists and gaps between what they need to thrive and what the system can provide them. Let's innovate new models and fight for higher reimbursement rates and simpler billing practices that help therapists earn what they deserve. And let's have compassion for those who show so much compassion to our children. #MentalHealthDay #FightForTherapists Sources: https://lnkd.in/eeMUHxqr https://lnkd.in/eGhBHSVB https://lnkd.in/edVSumiB

AI Editions: School Refusal Fort Health's mission is to open more paths to better care for more children and families. In the last 18 months, we've built an education program that brings together leading clinicians and researchers. While our content is popular and worth the time investment, not everyone has an hour to attend a live webinar or watch a video. So we've been playing with Google's Notebook LM tool to create short audio summaries of some of our most popular sessions. Here's the first edition that summarizes our school refusal session. Please enjoy, share, and check out the full session here: https://lnkd.in/e7Cv_ETX

Last week we collaborated with the American Institute for Boys and Men, Child Mind Institute, and Georgetown University's Thrive Center for Children, Families, and Communities to explore why boys struggle academically, what educational policies and practices must change, and how caregivers and parents can best advocate for their boys. Stay tuned for a follow-up session focusing on the specific needs and challenges of boys from diverse communities. We heard your feedback and are working on it. #BuildingStrongBoys https://lnkd.in/embPSzW9

"It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men." - Frederick Douglas. And yet... By the third grade, female students outperform boys by roughly half a grade level. By the end of 8th grade, girls are almost a full grade ahead. Boys are also 2.5 times more likely to get suspended from school.  We have two options: 1. Give up and believe there's something inherently wrong with boys. 2. Examine how and why our education system fails them (and what to do about it) We choose the latter. Join us next week if you agree to learn from education, community, and mental health experts; Dr. Matthew Biel, Richard V. Reeves, Lindsay Henderson, PsyD, and Dr. Adam Zamora. Special thanks to Child Mind Institute, The American Institute for Boys and Men, and Georgetown University for partnering with us on this session. H/T to Scott Galloway for being a prominent voice on the topic. Register here: https://lnkd.in/eg58tajd #FailingBoys

We cannot help everyone. As behavioral health providers, it pains us to admit it. But no matter how hard we work, how many clinicians we recruit, and how ambitious we are, we cannot help everyone. In fact, data shows we cannot even help the majority of young people who show up in pediatricians' offices with mental health concerns. 23% of behavioral health care is delivered by primary care physicians, a higher proportion than any other behavioral health provider. 85% of psychotropic medications are prescribed by primary care physicians. Put simply, the best path out of this crisis goes through primary care physicians. 60% of visits to primary care provider offices due to anxiety end with a prescription to medication but only 32% end with therapy. This is why we launched Collaborative Care, designed to enhance their capacity to provide care. And this is why we partnered with Advocare, LLC on this education series about medication management. Over the summer we ran three sessions to cover three topics: 1. Prescribing Stimulants For Management Of ADHD. Recording here: https://lnkd.in/eyD232aA 2. Prescribing Non-Stimulants For Management Of ADHD. Recording here: https://lnkd.in/ezQ53VNA 3. Prescribing SSRIs For Management Of Anxiety and Depression. Recording here: https://lnkd.in/eyRDT8TZ Special thanks to Dr. Sara Harmon who led the training. Please share with your network of primary care providers. #pediatrics #mentalhealth #primarycare Sources: https://lnkd.in/eRfJ6MBD https://lnkd.in/exhuNMxH https://lnkd.in/erFiAn4J

As children began returning to school, we partnered with The Mental Health Association in New York State on a webinar that teaches young people and their parents how to navigate worries in a worry-inducing news environment. Dylan Goodwin, LCSW answered 15 key questions all parents and caregivers ask themselves. There are lots of reasons to worry these days and our children are hyper-sensitive to all of them. Learn how to support them (and cope with your worries while you're at it). #parenting #anxiety https://lnkd.in/eFUEtuFd

Anxiety and Depression are the two most common diagnoses in pediatric mental health. But even though 60% of pediatrician visits end with a prescription, up to 65% of pediatricians still report feeling uncomfortable about prescribing. In the third session of our Medication Management for PCPs Series, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist Dr. Sara Harmon, Medical Director at Advocare Behavioral Health - will lead a case-focused discussion about prescribing and titrating SSRIs. Join us on September 11 at 12:15 PM ET to learn: 1. Algorithms and best practices 2. Lessons from real cases 3. A chance to ask your questions Register here: https://lnkd.in/dBheDriB #Pediatrics #psychotropics

Studies show that the best way to manage ADHD (still) involves prescribing medication. But the national ratio of children to child psychiatrists is 6,644:1. So 85% of these medications are prescribed by pediatricians. The same pediatricians who, more often than not, report discomfort with prescribing. We can keep complaining but we prefer to do something about it. So we partnered with Advocare, LLC to educate pediatricians and next week, August 1, at 12:15 pm ET will be our second education session about prescribing non-stimulants for ADHD. Dozends of pediatricians joined our first session and we loved taking on questions and sharing knowledge. Please register here: https://lnkd.in/ejKnnUch And please share this information with other providers. #mentalhealth #medicationmanagement #pediatrics

What do you call a service that gets more expensive while at the same time getting worse? Behavioral healthcare in the US. Three key quotes from PwC report that came out last week: "Commercial health care spending is estimated to grow 8.0% and 7.5% between 2024 and 2025, its highest level in 13 years" "This near-record high is driven by continued inflationary pressures, prescription drug spending, and behavioral health utilization without new meaningful deflators." "[Healthplans and payviders...invest in relationships with providers to establish collaborative care models that integrate physical and mental health services, promoting holistic and cost-effective care." Fort Health's take: we cannot keep using the same care models and expecting different results. Innovations like Collaborative Care are the only way out of a worsening crisis. This is why we're investing so much in implementing this model. If you're a health plan or health system and are tired of paying more and getting less, contact us and let's talk about implementing Collaborative Care for your patients.
