We have all put thousands of hours collectively into divestment and SB 252. We have sacrificed evenings, called in favors, gone on emotional roller coasters, and put our all into seeing fossil free state pensions. This IS NOT the end - we have made immense progress this year. The coalition of support has exploded - especially amongst unions and organizations setting the bill as a priority and dedicating over 20 hours a week to divestment. The CalPERS Board of Directors raised serious concerns about continuing to invest in Exxon after the oil company sued shareholders who brought forward a climate resolution. Including a comment from CalPERS President Theresa Taylor who said “I don't think engaging with Exxon will work, I think we need a plan.” Admitting that engagement with fossil fuel companies simply doesn't work. We have been saying this for years! We need CalPERS to lead the way, as investors you should be infuriated. This is a major infringement of shareholder rights and for a company to sue its shareholders because it doesn't want to be held accountable sets not only a dangerous precedent but it is time to stop pretending that Exxon can be reformed. It's time to Exit Exxon and it's time to take divestment from fossil fuels seriously by supporting SB252. Link to share: https://lnkd.in/ezkaEh2V
