Community Beyond the System.

About us

Foster Village Charlotte creates connections with dignity for children and families experiencing foster care by meeting urgent needs, providing educational and emotional support, and advocating as a collective community voice for children. Founded in 2018 by four foster parents, FVC began as a grassroots effort to allow foster parents to connect with and support each other and then quickly multiplied into a movement as we began to encounter more and more foster parents experiencing similar challenges. FVC is not a licensing agency but collaborates with several private foster parent licensing agencies, local government, child welfare organizations, and the community to serve families holistically and represent the foster family voice to the Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services (DSS). FVC’s vision is a strong support system surrounding every child in foster care, leading to a resilient next generation that breaks the cycle of childhood adversity. FVC has developed and launched a variety of programs to support children and families experiencing foster care under our three pillars: Equip, Connect, and Advocate which we tied to three core overall outcomes: 1) EQUIP - Increase the capacity of trauma-focused caregivers in our community. 2) CONNECT - Increase the capacity of caregivers as protective factors from the impacts of childhood trauma. 3) ADVOCATE - Increase community engagement to decrease disconnection and injustice through holistic systemic change.

  • Here at Foster Village Charlotte, we are ready to equip any foster or kinship family displaced to the Charlotte area due to hurricane helene with tangible resources. You can go to our website and fill out a welcome pack form under our "request forms" tab. In addition, if you would like a person to process crisis-supportive parenting, use that tab to request a 1:1 by one of our licensed clinical social workers. We are here for you. In the months ahead, we stand ready to join our partners across the region to help rebuild inventories that serve foster care. We are #WesternNCStrong

  • In the wake of Hurricane Helene, our hearts are with all those affected. Here in Charlotte, we’ve seen the swell of community support for our beloved mountain towns, which is what we love most about this city. We’ll keep you posted on ways to get involved locally through our stories. Foster Village Charlotte wades through crisis support daily, and today is no different. We know that kids who have experienced trauma can be significantly disrupted during this time. We’re here to support those caregivers in our region as they care for children experiencing unpredictability. In the days ahead, we stand ready to support fostering organizations in the areas affected as they rebuild their inventory, which directly impacts children experiencing foster care and their foster and kinship caregivers. We are #wncstrong.

  • Have you heard of our Welcome Pack program?🎒 Caregivers often have very little time to prepare for when a new child is entering their home. Welcome packs provide all the necessities for families to get through the first two weeks of care. We deliver welcome packs within 48hours of new placements, 7 days a week. Our welcome packs include clothing, toys, books, hygiene products, blankets, car seats, and more. All items in our welcome packs are brand new and are delivered with the help of volunteers! Interested in learning more or sponsoring a welcome pack for a family? Head over to our website to learn more! https://lnkd.in/en-DcHcK

  • Are you a teacher with a student in your class experiencing foster care? Are you a therapist or mental health professional looking to understand more about the foster care journey? At Foster Village Charlotte, we recognize that many people touch the child welfare system but may have limited knowledge about the complexity- including, but not limited to - teachers, school administrators, therapists (occupational, speech, mental health, physical), nurses, and many more. That's why we are investing time for the rest of 2024 in providing one-hour virtual consultations that will help support and guide any professional connected to a child experiencing foster care. We're here to brainstorm, answer questions, and build confidence in advocating for and caring for children. You can book a consultation here: bit.ly/FVCofficehours

  • Last month, we welcomed Children's Hope Alliance, AYN, Children's Home Society, Bethany, and Carolina Family Connections to our center for our first Licensing Agency chat. We're excited to host again! Are you connected to a licensing agency? Join us for our Licensing Coffee Chat event, where we will connect, network, and discuss a challenge currently impacting the child welfare system. The last half hour will be open to further chatting and networking. If it’s your first time at the center, we would love to take you on a tour and tell you more about our programming. This in-person event will be held at 4915 Monroe Rd, so mark your calendars and come ready for caffeine and pastries. Don’t miss this opportunity to expand your network with like-minded individuals. We look forward to seeing you there!
