As our programs grow, so too does our board. As announced today, Nicole Briscoe -- ESPN SportsCenter anchor, our DIAMONDS gala emcee and Roscoe, Ill., native -- joined the board in September. And earlier this month, Ron Clewer of Gorman & Company, David Costello, CDMP of the Rockford IceHogs, and Jeff Marrs of The Custer Meisch Group at Morgan Stanley joined the effort. For the 2024-25 cycle, at least one scholarship will be awarded to a graduating high school student who is pursuing college, university, junior college, or technical/trades post-secondary education. In alignment with our annual DIAMONDS storytelling gala as a vehicle for showcasing exemplary achievement, applicants must embody excellence in the classroom, demonstrate an ability to thrive under pressure, and show a commitment to volunteerism in the Rockford region. Words can’t express what a honored it was to be a participant in this year’s DIAMONDS Event by Founders Commission!! It was a phenomenal night. I’m so proud that the world is getting to know the brilliant talent that has and continues to come from my hometown, Rockford Illinois!! This year’s Founders Commission DIAMONDS 💎 event recognized the multi-talented, beautiful, and spiritual Michelle Williams from Destiny Child. Her name speaks for itself!! She was extremely humbled and vulnerable to come back to talk to us about her successful career but also to discuss Mental Health and Mental Illness! She opened up about her own struggles that so many of us deal with on a daily. I think we all should support these real conversations to eliminate the stigma. Her deep rooted faith in God was so relevant in her whole upbringing. Her faith helped her weather the storm and to move forward in her career. Also, I was delighted to be the presenter to announce Faith Offermann as the inaugural DIAMONDS Youth Scholar. She definitely has a bright future ahead of her. Congratulations Faith!! Great to meet your Mother. Thank you again Founders Commission and especially Nick Povalitis for allowing a SAFE SPACE to celebrate our community! With this year's addition of the Next Gems Youth Summit, we were honored to expand the impact of DIAMONDS to directly serve area youth. The engagement and professionalism of the 50 kids who attended was impressive, as well as a direct reflection of the excellent work that the Rockford Park District does throughout the Rockford region. As part of DIAMONDS: Michelle Williams, the first Next Gems summit is an invite-only program open held the afternoon of Wednesday, July 17. The program will provide 50 area youth the opportunity to network with professional vendors, engage in breakout sessions led by local mental health professionals, enjoy lunch and giveaways, and experience the impact that the Founders Commission and Rockford Park District have on our hometown region.
