The California Lawyers Association (CLA) has named Daniel M. Goldberg, Chair of our Data Strategy, Privacy & Security Group, the 2025 "California Lawyer of the Year!” This award recognizes a lawyer’s significant contributions to the development of California privacy law. Daniel becomes only the third person, and first private practitioner, to receive this award.   A highly respected leader in privacy law, Daniel advises on a wide range of privacy, security, and AI matters, including compliance with consumer, business, and HR datasets. His expertise spans from handling high-stakes regulatory enforcement actions to shaping the application of privacy laws, including one of the first public actions under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Regulatory focus on location data is well-worn by now, and states have picked up where the FTC left off. Yesterday, California privacy brass announced their sixth investigative sweep, this time into location data practices. Notably, it keyed in on honoring privacy preferences expressed through on mobile settings - first discussed in X-Mode and InMobi - providing guidance for consumers that doubles as vital insight for ad networks, data brokers, and mobile app providers.
