    I won’t pretend that the current job market is anything other than brutal. My colleagues and I at Freeman+Leonard field this question from job seekers almost daily: "What can I do to give myself an edge?" Here's what we're recommending in 2024: ⚡️ Keep a running document to note any accomplishments — big or small — that you can return to. Make a habit of adding a new entry every week or every month. Come time to freshen up your resume, you'll have your achievements locked and loaded. ⚡️ When describing your prior work, focus on the impact you made instead of the responsibilities you were assigned. Employers care about the results you achieved — not the minutiae of your day-to-day activity.  ⚡️ Company lingo matters more than ever. For example, does your potential employer talk about serving their "customers" or their "clients"? If you use the incorrect term during your interview, it can be a red flag that you don't really understand the company culture. ⚡ ️ Expand your networking. Instead of focusing on connecting only with people with hiring power, pull in more people to help your search! Connect with folks at your career level, with those below you, and with folks who've helped you with your search in the past — even if it didn't lead to an immediate connection. If you've won a job recently, what helped give you the advantage? If you're hiring, what automatically moves a resume into your "yes" pile?
