About us
FREIHEIT Architecture partners with developers and private sector owners to create commercial environments to improve the communities we live in. Our work ranges between complex mixed-use high-rise towers to tenant improvements, from master planning to post construction services. Our multi-faceted design strategies are built upon lessons learned from serving as advocates to owners, tenants, and end-users. Our project approach is very pragmatic, attentive to restraints set by time, budget, and jurisdictional requirements, and working within this framework to find creative ways to reach goals and add value. With the growing options and complexity of the built environment, we believe that collaboration and bringing the right team to the table is invaluable. We value simplicity, tend to be plain speaking, and prefer to roll up our sleeves and get things done in a no non-sense fashion.

Excited to announce that our President, Dustin Thorlakson, was named to the 425 Business Magazine list of 40 under 40! This recognition is well deserved not only for his work here at FREIHEIT Architecture, but his involvement with the Bellevue Youth Theatre Foundation, Bellevue Chamber, and NAIOP Washington State. It was a fantastic experience working with the CSI Construction Company on two new retail buildings at Lakeside at Canyon Park. Their team made the CA process smooth, collaborative, and efficient.
The 2nd Building was finalled yesterday. We are grateful to have the opportunity to build 2 shell buildings for Cindy Johnson with First Washington Realty designed by the Daniel Polgreen and team at FREIHEIT Architecture. The sitework was designed by Sean Mallon and team with PACLAND. We are super proud of the CSI Construction Company team of: Mike Van Kirk, Brad Larson, and Arash Hosseini, for completing this project on time, and quickly helping to resolve the typical issues that come up on every project. Great job to all of the above, and to all of the Subcontractors that worked on these 2 buildings for another successful completion.

Good luck and happy designing to our summer intern Sadhana Ramesh Babu as she heads back to the University of Oregon Architecture School!
I am delighted to announce that I recently completed my internship as an Architectural Intern at FREIHEIT Architecture! I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the four principals, Jennifer Caudle, Michael Langston, Dustin Thorlakson, and Chris Amonson for all their mentorship and guidance throughout my internship. During my internship, I was deeply involved in various projects that provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the business side and design process for architecture at FREIHEIT. Throughout these projects, I was able to touch upon many aspects of the business side of the industry such as drafting proposals, attending client meetings, and attending conferences. These experiences allowed me to learn about how architecture is an amalgamation of business and design. A highlight of my internship was having the opportunity to observe various site visits for different projects. These experiences were particularly insightful, as I was able to soak up more knowledge by being on a site physically for meetings, such as with the project team or for punch walks. Witnessing the site visits firsthand deepened my understanding of the requirements and practices essential for a successful end result. Overall, my summer spent with FREIHEIT Architecture allowed me to understand the importance of ensuring quality of design in the architecture industry. I am very fortunate to have had this experience as it allowed me to gain skills that I can apply in my architectural design projects and my future career. I had a wonderful summer working with the FREIHEIT principals and team members. This was a remarkable experience and I want to thank everyone who supported me during my internship this summer.
