It has been a wonderful collaboration since YGH and Integrus came together two years ago! There is much to celebrate—including many exciting opportunities to design meaningful places in the public realm. This work benefits from our combined talents, and shared values of environmental stewardship and social justice, to support communities with their goals. Coming together as two firms also strengthens the value and depth of our future leadership and expands the high caliber of design insight and capabilities we bring, providing a solid foundation from which to serve clients into the future. Through our work together we are achieving goals to meet our 2030 sustainability commitments. Through participation in the JUST label we are continuing to prioritize equity, inclusion and transparency of operational practices in all three offices. We continue to diversify our shareholder group (nearly 50% women owned) and actively pursue an inclusive work environment. Our firm remains deeply committed in our response to social injustices and embedded biases. We are working with more minority and BIPOC consultants, along with numerous projects with Indigenous clients. Now in our 71st year, we look forward to a bright future and appreciate the opportunity to work with amazing clients and partners. Here’s to many more years of innovation and success! #Anniversary #CompanyMerger #DesignExcellence #PacificNorthwest #NewBeginnings #TeamGrowth #InnovativeDesign

Where would the design world be without specifiers? They are an integral part of the design process, tracking related industry standards for the knowledge to recommend relevant product and materials solutions, with increased attention toward sustainable design for effective project delivery and performance. CSI (Construction Specifications Institute) is the national specifier industry organization. This week, two Integrus colleagues step into top positions with the CSI Puget Sound Chapter. Julie Taylor is now president, and Charlie Calvano, will serve as president-elect. Julie Taylor, Specifications Writer, Senior Associate, specifies products and materials for our work in the K12 school design arena, with a focus on healthy and low embodied carbon materials. She also contributes to our firm’s overall product and materials learning, by organizing the Seattle ‘Lunch & Learn’ series and arranging informative companywide knowledge share sessions. Julie joined CSI in 2008 and has been a member of the annual ProSpec event committee since 2015. Charlie Calvano, Architect & Senior Associate, contributes to the firm on all things related to code and technical aspects of a project. He builds on his extensive experience as a project architect to serve as a mentor to younger staff. This includes developing an internal Knowledge Share Series program making technical information available as the solid foundation on which to build a career in architecture. He is currently working on construction of the new Tyee High School in the Highline School District. Charlie has been with CSI since 2005 and on the ProSpec committee since 2008. We appreciate all these two do for our projects. And we wish Julie well in her new role and anticipate Charlie will enjoy this year prepping for his own term next year! We are thrilled to announce the promotion of individuals advancing within our practice. Congratulations to our new Associate Principal Dan Snook, AIA. From his first days as a college intern, it became apparent that Dan had the personality and talent to be successful at Integrus. After spending time on the east coast, he returned to the Pacific NW with an expanded perspective and a wealth of experience. We were happy to welcome him “home” and have enjoyed watching him accomplish great things on some of our most visible and complex projects. A consummate professional, Dan serves clients and team members well in navigating complicated problems. He genuinely cares for the success of our projects, firm, and our people. As a respected team leader, he successfully mentors others, helping them to perform at their best. With leaders like Dan guiding us, Integrus looks forward to exciting days ahead and the continuation of a long history of future generations that continually improve our design practice. #TeamIntegrus #advancement #Leadership #architecture #design

We design for learning in all its many forms, which includes creating welcoming and engaging teaching spaces for CTE (Career & Technical education) tailored to specific career skills curriculum and hands-on learning preparing students for success in the workforce. In this article in Learning By Design Magazine, titled “Student Engagement Through Authentic Learning Experiences: How CTE Creates Real-World Learning Experiences for Students”, Integrus Senior Associate Molly Jacobs teams up with Diego Barrera, principal, WRA Architects, to explore how CTE serves as a beacon of innovation and opportunity in contemporary education. The current structure of CTE programs is distinguished from vocational models of the past by seamlessly integrating academic knowledge with practical skills, preparing students for a variety of career pathways with the tools they need to thrive in an ever-evolving workforce. This integrated approach not only enhances student engagement but also contributes to a high graduation rate. And postsecondary CTE programs extend opportunities for students to delve deeper into their chosen interests, offering specialized training and skill development. In turn, there has been an intentional shift to create engaging CTE education environments putting learning on display to elevate the experience and draw for a diverse range of students. We believe in the transformative power of design. During Pride Month and throughout the year, we support the LGBTQIA+ community and honor diversity in our practice and in our work, designing inclusive spaces that support safe, welcoming spaces for everyone. Recent work includes pro bono master planning and permitting services for non-profit We Shine’s Avalon Village–Portland’s first micro-village of tiny-homes prioritizing LGBTQIA+ people. This past year we’ve taken a look at the shift of societal norms surrounding public restrooms. When designed with intentionality, these spaces can create a sense of welcoming for all by improving efficiencies, reducing wait times, tackling safety concerns, and addressing social constructs. Especially on higher education campuses, students are driving change to put inclusive restrooms on display. This includes a redesign of restrooms in Fir Acres Theater at Lewis & Clark College in Portland. A Gallery in our Seattle office showcases emerging local underrepresented artists, particularly women, people of color and LGBTQIA2S+ artists. The space currently features a mural by Lydia Jewel Gerard. We continually strive for a more inclusive and accepting world supporting an equitable society for everyone.

Duck. Cover. Hold. In the seismically active northwest, we’re familiar with this instruction in the event of an earthquake. But what would you do to escape a tsunami? Go up! But where, and how? This CNN article discusses tsunami preparedness and response. For places where there is no safe higher elevation or not enough time to get there, vertical evacuation sites offer refuge from tsunami within reach of people nearby. It references our work at the Oregon State University coastal campus in Newport, OR, with a building designed to withstand significant waves of water and debris. A highly visible large ramp extends from ground level up to the roof, leading to an emergency cache with supplies for 900 people to last three days (or until help comes). It's a great example for schools, hospitals and other civic buildings to consider. And check out the CNN series, ‘Violent Earth’, exploring natural disasters throughout the world. The episode about earthquake and tsunami includes good information to be aware of, whether living in an inundation zone or when visiting coastal areas in a seismic zone. It’s not a matter of if – but when! Be ready! The Hillyard Community Campus in Spokane, Washington—encompassing Shaw Middle School, On Track Academy and the Hillyard Branch of the Spokane Public Library—has won the 2024 Polished Apple Award, the top statewide school design award from A4LE Washington A4LE Washington Chapter! An unprecedented public/ private partnership came together as partners for change to create a campus of shared resources to position students and families for success, in one of the most economically challenged districts in the state. Jury comments called out —“It’s hard enough working on a school project with one or two stakeholders, we can’t imagine navigating about 12 different ones. What stood out was the level of planning amongst the many entities...and the flexibility of spaces for hands-on learning.” A big shout out to the Hillyard community, On Track Academy, Spokane Public Library and our design and construction teams who brought about this beautiful place that builds school and community pride, supporting belonging and inclusion for better education experiences for students. #A4LE #polishedappleaward #education #community #educationdesign #schools #ShawMiddleSchool #OnTrack #HillyardLibrary #TeamIntegrus Spokane Public Schools Spokane Public Library
