Women are catching, raising, processing, transporting, selling, marketing, and cooking seafood, as well as being the supportive partners of people who work in the industry and running those households. Plus, they’re saving threatened aquatic ecosystems so we’ll have a future with seafood in it. Yet, their contributions often go unrecognized and undervalued, creating a severe lack of equality and equity in everything from leadership roles to the gender pay gap. (Even while creating this post, we had a conversation about how there’s such limited data on women, which is critical to assessing what’s wrong and how it can be fixed.) That’s why we’re here at SAGE—our goal is to create a more inclusive, equitable sector. If women and genderqueer people were to have their work and voices uplifted and amplified, the industry and the planet would THRIVE beyond measure. And that’s why all of October (aka: 𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗙𝗢𝗢𝗗 𝗠𝗢𝗡𝗧𝗛!), we’ll be talking about seaweed, oysters, tinned fish, and how they wouldn’t reach your plate without the hard work of incredible women. So stay tuned next week as we dive into sea greens with Cameron Moore, our Program Analyst! #NationalSeafoodMonth #WomenInSeafood #SDG5 #GenderEquality #SeafoodSector #SeafoodIndustry #SeafoodMonth

Our friends at International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) are looking for help from communities in Latin America to understand the need for capital to support ocean start-ups. Future of Fish LATAM #ocean #Capital #LATAM #SDG14
Are you a funder, entrepreneur, start-up or NGO in the Latin American marine sector? We need your help! 🙋♀️ IIED is a core partner of the Latin American Ocean Capital Collective - an initiative working to design, curate and deploy mechanisms to distribute capital to Latin America´s ocean entrepreneurs who are working to support healthy oceans and resilient coastal communities in the region. Across Latin America, critical funding gaps exist to ensure that coastal communities are resilient to climate changes, and are able to continue their march towards sustainable practices. This ocean economy needs scalable business models that meet the needs of local communities and which catalyze the next generation of impactful and sustainable businesses. 🌊 To kick-start this work, we are asking local communities to fill this brief survey! This will help us understand the size of the demand and supply of capital for nature-positive ocean startups in Latin America and the Caribbean 👇 English --> https://lnkd.in/dGJCn3dp Español --> https://lnkd.in/dE-bQgeB #LATAM #OceanGovernance #LivelihoodSecurity Annabelle Bladon Armillaria PescaData Mesoamerican Reef Fund Future of Fish WorldFish
