Our Community Solutions Group started the summer with the Onward Kissimmee project, a Comprehensive Plan Update of the city’s land use and transportation element. The project aims to shape the city's growth to prepare for future development and transportation improvements. Through the planning process, we aim to honor the city’s roots and celebrate the places it cherishes while actively listening to the voices of Kissimmee’s citizens. Kissimmee, FL is home to approximately 80,000 residents and is known for its rich diversity and vibrant community. The city's population has steadily grown at a rate of 3-4% annually and includes a significant Hispanic presence. Many residents trace their roots to Puerto Rico, Colombia, Venezuela, and other Latin American countries, contributing to the city's multicultural identity. We kicked off the project with a community meeting featuring four interactive stations. Attendees shared their stories, filled out comment cards about what they love and want to improve in the city, marked places they live, work, and visit on maps, and highlighted areas with growth potential. The event included a mobile tour of eight key destinations, showcasing city elements like neighborhoods, streets, open spaces, and conservation areas while identifying areas for improvement.
