#RememberWhy: It was a historic moment in March 2022 when the United Nations agreed on a mandate for the world’s first #PlasticsTreaty — an internationally legally binding instrument to reduce plastic pollution across its full life-cycle. This would not have happened without years of tireless work from the #BreakFreeFromPlastic movement, GAIA members, waste pickers, frontline activists, and zero waste advocates. We’re weeks away before the fifth and last INC, and we urge the member states to #RememberWhy they mandated a plastics treaty in the first place–- they have the chance to leave a legacy of a plastic-free future. #LessPlasticMoreLife

About us
GAIA's Mission: GAIA is a worldwide alliance of grassroots organizations, non-governmental organizations, and individuals who recognize that our planet's finite resources, fragile biosphere and the health of people and other living beings are endangered by polluting and inefficient production practices and health-threatening disposal methods. We envision a just, zero waste world built on respect for ecological limits and community rights, where people are free from the burden of toxic pollution, and resources are sustainably conserved, not burned or dumped.

Did you know that 🍀 Waste methane emissions can be reduced by 95% thanks to composting, bio-stabilisation, and biologically active cover for dumpsites in the waste sector? 🍀Waste segregation and organic composting can reduce methane emissions from landfills by 62%? As we are gearing up towards #COP29 we reiterate our call: the time is now to increase and shift climate finance to scale up and replicate successful, community-led zero waste initiatives that offer the most substantial climate mitigation outcomes. Join the GAIA delegation at Baku Azerbaijan in November as we give you the latest from COP.
