Our AI personality of the month is Mercy Nyamewaa Asiedu, Ph.D. Dr. Asiedu is a research scientist at Google Research in San Francisco, focusing on responsible AI methods to democratize healthcare. Born in Ghana, she witnessed healthcare inequity firsthand, driving her to pursue technological solutions. She earned a biomedical engineering degree from the University of Rochester on a full scholarship.      During her Ph.D. at Duke University, Dr. Asiedu developed the Callascope device for cervical cancer screening and created machine learning algorithms for cancer interpretation. Her work earned her the Schmidt Science Fellowship, leading to postdoctoral research at CSAIL MIT. There, she developed AI tools to enhance ultrasound imaging and improve patients' understanding of medical notes.      Dr. Asiedu's impact extends beyond academia. She co-founded the Calla Health Foundation and GAPhealth Technologies Inc, translating her research into real-world healthcare solutions. In 2021, she received the Patrick J. McGovern Tech for Humanity Changemaker Prize, recognizing her innovative use of technology in addressing global health challenges.
