“Something has to change. It begins with fundamentally shifting how we value parenting, recognizing that the work of raising a child is crucial to the health and well-being of all society. This change must extend to policies, programs and individual actions designed to make this vital work easier.” Our Surgeon General once again nails it with a public health crisis, this time parenthood. I hope some, even many, of his suggestions are discussed and formed into meaningful legislation. I also want to credit the extraordinary organization Inlove and work for. In the fall of 2021, my daughter was hospitalized for 8 days with GBS. Her recovery took months. I had year-end fundraising to do among many pressing tasks as the ED of the Garces Foundation. But Dr. Beatriz Garces, Robert Kurzban, and Jillian Gierke circled the wagons around me and did their best to protect me from working so I could simply focus on my child. I was paid. I was supported.
