Tomorrow, November 3 marks the end of Daylight Saving. Be sure to set your clocks back by 1 hour. As we set back, allow your body to adjust to this time change. An hour of extra sleep may sound beneficial, but an earlier nightfall can cause seasonal depression, hinder your sleep schedule and even affect your heart rate, blood pressure, stress hormones and metabolism.

Congratulations to Garnet Health Medical Center - Catskills' September Employee of the Month Antonia "Toni" Duncan, MSN, RN, Clinical Director! 🙌🐝 Toni is highly collaborative and professional with staff and leaders. She adapts her role as needed during code events, resulting in effective support during crisis situations. Recently, Toni responded to a Code Gray on the Behavioral Health Unit (BHU) at the Harris Campus, where a patient was resistant to psychotropic medications. Working alongside the BHU Director, Toni used de-escalation skills and empathy to help the patient reach tension reduction without emergency medication. Toni consistently provides exceptional support and is an invaluable colleague and mentor. She always puts the patient first. Thank you, Toni, for all you do to care for our patients!

Hannah Cohen of Minisink Valley Youth Against Cancer Club (MVYACC) recently donated approximately 100 hand-written breast cancer support cards from the MVYACC. We are so grateful for the thoughtfulness of the Minisink Valley High School students for taking the time to craft these beautiful letters. They are sure to spread positivity amongst our breast cancer patients in Infusion. Hannah, pictured middle left, is accompanied by Garnet Health Medical Center's Jayne O'Malley, RN Manager, Navigation Services; Jessica Gerlach, Director of Clinical Trails and Radiation Oncology and Stephanie Bonanno, Director of Infusion.

Congratulations to Garnet Health Medical Center's DAISY award winner Carolyn Conover, RSN, RN, Emergency Department! 🙌🌼 Recently, a patient shared their Emergency Department experience. They stated that Carolyn was incredibly kind and took the time to talk to them. Carolyn was able to immediately look into the patients situation and provide them with a quick update. Her cheerful approach and attitude not only expedited the process, but also eased the patient's anxieties. Thank you, Carolyn for providing so much care and compassion to our patients!

Congratulations to Garnet Health Medical Center's DAISY Award winner Jelaine Evangelista, BSN, RN, Labor & Delivery! 👏🌼 During one of the most nerve-wracking times, the birth of a first grandchild, Jelaine provided proper care and comfort for this family. She was present, anticipating their needs and ensuring everything was perfect. The patient vividly remembers Jelaine's exceptional coaching, which helped her through the pain and anxiety of labor. Her nomination read, "I'll never forget Jelaine! It felt like we gained more than one new family member that day!" Jelaine's care is a powerful reminder of the impact an extraordinary nurse can have. Thank you, Jelaine, for your compassion and dedication!

Garnet Health is thrilled to announce its partnership with Regional Food Bank and Hope Kitchen Executive Chef and Founder John Doherty to introduce the next generation of nutritious Shelf Stable Meals that will be provided to our qualifying Sullivan and Orange County patients and will have a great impact in fighting food insecurity throughout the Hudson Valley. Recently, Regional Food Bank CEO Tom Nardacci and Garnet Health CEO Jonathan Schiller led a public presentation at Garnet Health to showcase the versatility of the Hope Kitchen meals that will be available to Regional Food Bank partners – focusing on Food for Medicine programs and local School Backpack programs. Through Food for Medicine, approximately 5,000 patients who screen as food insecure will be discharged with a bag of shelf stable food. If a food insecure patient has diet restrictions, they will receive a food bag that best supports their diagnosis. Moira Mencher, Garnet Health’s Director of Community Relations said, “Our partnership with the Regional Food Bank Hudson Valley has been instrumental in sustaining our Food Farmacy Program, providing vital resources for our patients facing food insecurity… Starting this month, these meals will be included in our Food Farmacy inventory, further enhancing our commitment to the health and well-being of our community.”
