About us

Hi, we’re glad you’re here! GCI is Alaska’s largest telecommunications provider. We’re headquartered in Anchorage where we’ve served our neighbors for more than 40 years. GCI employs nearly 2,000 Alaskans and has invested more than $4 billion in its Alaska network and facilities. Today, GCI serves more than 200 communities including some of the most remote in North America. GCI's services are connected through fiber optic, satellite, and microwave network facilities, which are connected to the lower 48 states by geographically diverse fiber. This is the only network of its kind in Alaska. It allows the company to provide customized services to healthcare, education, enterprise, and residential customers in the Alaska market, which covers an area larger than Texas, California, and Montana combined. Our team had an amazing time during their recent trip to Bethel! We hosted a community BBQ and concert with the Inuit-soul musical group Pamyua and connected with many friends and neighbors in the community. Thank you to everyone who came out and helped make this event so memorable. Bethel will be one of the first communities in the AIRRAQ Network to get fiber connectivity. The project will bring high-speed, urban-priced connectivity to 13 Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta communities. #RuralAlaska

“I was born and raised in Alaska and went to University of Alaska Anchorage for a degree in computer systems engineering with minors in mathematics, electrical engineering and computer science. During my senior year at UAA, I got an internship at GCI with our application system support team. I’ve been at GCI ever since! The culture of GCI is very team driven. When I'm facing a problem in my day-to-day work, I know I've got an entire team that is excited to look at the problem with me. We have a very high level of collaboration where we’re constantly calling each other and mentoring one another. We succeed and we fail as a team — immediately lending a hand to one another. There’s a very high degree of teamwork. That’s what I love most about working at GCI. Since GCI is an Alaska company and being born and raised here, I love to feel like I'm giving back to the community, or at least helping improve the community in my own way. It’s what wakes me up in the morning. Ultimately, I'm really proud to be an Alaskan. From UAA to GCI, Alaska has built who I am." Kyle is a Data Engineer in Enterprise Analytics and has been at GCI for almost eight years. When Kyle isn’t at work, you’ll find him golfing, enjoying the last of this summer’s weather, walking his dogs with his wife and skiing in the winter!

We are committed to supporting our communities in times of need. In response to a recent fire that impacted Tukurngailnguq School in Stebbins, GCI contributed $5,000 to the regional nonprofit Kawerak, Inc. to assist with transportation costs for students commuting to another nearby school. We hope this contribution brings some relief to the students and families as they prepare for the upcoming school year. Read the full press release ➡️ https://bit.ly/3AjKmdO.

When it comes to experiencing Juneau, the Hangar on the Wharf has offered locals and visitors alike a true taste of Alaska since 1996. Whether it’s their renowned fish and chips or a dish with an even more unique Alaska flavor (wasabi salmon burger, anyone?), this restaurant is a community staple. At the heart of it all is Reecia Wilson, a lifelong Alaskan who has dedicated herself to making the Hangar a cornerstone of Juneau’s dining scene. Running a restaurant that serves a wide range of customers is no small task, but Reecia and her team make it work. “I’m lucky to have an incredibly talented team around me, and we’re really close-knit,” Reecia says. “Coming out of COVID has been the toughest challenge I’ve faced, but you’ve got to keep pushing forward.” Behind the scenes, GCI plays a pivotal role in ensuring smooth operations at the Hangar. “GCI’s internet has been a game-changer for us, especially during the busy summer months when reliable service is so important,” Reecia notes. “When we do face challenges, GCI’s business support team has always been there to help us get back on track quickly.” Their new handheld point-of-sale (POS) systems have transformed how the restaurant operates. These devices allow servers to take orders directly at the table and send them instantly to the kitchen, streamlining service and reducing wait times. But the success of this new system hinged on having a reliable and fast internet connection which is something that GCI has undeniably provided. With stunning waterfront views, great food, and top-notch service, the Hangar on the Wharf has become a must-visit spot in Juneau. #AlaskaBusiness #Connectivity
