On October 2nd, Giant Food had the honor of hosting a special event in partnership with Montgomery County officials, Novavax, and community leaders to promote the importance of immunizations.     During the event at one of our stores in Silver Spring, Maryland, County Executive Marc Elrich, County Councilmember Kristin Mink, Novavax employees, and other community partners gathered to announce the availability of the FDA-approved 2024-2025 Novavax COVID-19 vaccine. We were proud to administer flu and COVID-19 vaccinations to about 30 Montgomery County officials and Novavax employees, showcasing our commitment to the health and well-being of our community.    At Giant Food, we believe that access to quality healthcare is essential for building a healthier and safer community for all! 

Exciting news! Today, we are celebrating the grand reopening of our store in Abingdon, Maryland at 3299 Emmorton Road! The remodeled location offers an updated shopping experience for our customers with a wide range of amenities, including our Giant Pharmacy, full-service meat and seafood departments, a gourmet cheese selection, expansive prepared food offerings, Ledo Pizza Corner Shoppe, freshly made sushi, and even a Starbucks.    We highlighted three amazing associates who went above and beyond during the store's improvement process! In July, we launched our month-long, Nourishing Our Youth fundraising campaign to support food programs at local public school districts! Over the last few weeks, we presented the donations to the school at our local stores. With customer support, the campaign raised $349,272.40 for 31 school districts in our region! 100 percent of the proceeds raised were donated to the local school districts to use the funds to best serve their community and support meal programs like covering student meal debt, building on-campus food pantries, or increasing access to meals by serving free breakfast and lunch daily to students.

We are thrilled to announce that our very own Brand Marketing Manager, Omar Molina, has been selected for Ahold Delhaize's NextCo Board! NextCo is a “shadow board” that advises the AD Executive Committee (ExCo) to help ensure the voice of the next generation is represented in the board room.     The significance of Omar’s achievement cannot be understated: As one of the world’s largest retail companies, Ahold Delhaize employs more than 400,000 associates, comprising five generations, 67 percent of which are millennial or younger. Omar is now one of eight associates who will be serving on NextCo to help ensure ExCo – including AD CEO Frans Muller and ADUSA CEO JJ Fleeman – has access to these viewpoints of the next generation in the strategy and decision-making process.    This is a tremendous achievement, and we are proud to have Omar represent Giant Food in shaping the future of one of the world's largest retail companies. Celebrating culture and family is at the heart of Giant’s very own Montevillas, who keep their heritage vibrant through their love for cooking. One of their cherished recipes is Pique Macho—a hearty, flavorful dish rooted in Bolivian tradition and perfect for celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. Along with their passion for food, all members of the Montevilla family (except Grandma) enjoy working at Giant, and we’re hoping the tradition continues with the next generation of Montevilla’s! 😉
