We honor life through donation.
About us
Our Core Purpose: We honor life through donation. Our Core Values: Determined, Compassionate, Professional Gift of Life is the state's only federally designated organ and tissue recovery program, providing all services necessary for organ donation to occur in Michigan. We're a non-profit organization working 24/7/365 as a liaison between donors, the state's hospitals and transplant centers. Gift of Life was incorporated in 1971 by Michigan transplant surgeons to provide a network for sharing kidneys. Today, Gift of Life recovers more than 900 organs every year for transplantation from 300 or more donors, saving hundreds of lives. Bone, skin and other tissue also is recovered from nearly 1,000 donors, helping to significantly improve the lives of thousands of seriously injured and sick recipients. Gift of Life also works with Eversight Michigan to facilitate cornea and eye donation. Additionally, Gift of Life maintains and grows the Michigan Organ Donor Registry in partnership with the Michigan Secretary of State. The registry is a confidential database of state residents who have expressed their desire to someday help others by becoming an organ, eye and tissue donor.

𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 (𝗕𝗥𝗔) 𝗗𝗮𝘆 recognizes the importance of donor tissue in the process of healing and recovery from a mastectomy. Every year, women and men across the country bravely fight against breast cancer. Their path to regaining their health and confidence often involves breast reconstruction using donor tissue. Last year, we highlighted Curpri Sanders, one of those courageous survivors and a dedicated member of the Gift of Life Michigan staff. Curpri faced breast cancer head-on while pregnant with her second child. Following a double mastectomy, she received an incredibly generous gift that changed her life. Here she shares her story in her own words. 💚 💙 #DonateLife #BRADay

🌸 Gift of Life Michigan Celebrates Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) Day 🌸 Breast cancer survivor Sue Pilon shares how tissue donation transformed her recovery journey. Thanks to a tissue donor, Sue travels with her husband, free of concern about how her clothes fit—a life-changing contrast to her mother’s experience. A significant percentage of breast reconstructions after mastectomy are made possible by deceased donor tissue, and for Sue, this gift restored her confidence. Research advancements, early detection, and tissue donation have made a profound impact on Sue’s life, inspiring her to work with Gift of Life Michigan to advocate for tissue donation and regular checkups to find breast cancer early. 💗 Read Sue’s full story and learn how tissue donation makes a difference: https://lnkd.in/gSMsYfhV #BRADay #TissueDonation #BreastCancerAwareness

Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is celebrated from October 31st to November 2nd throughout Latin America and in many parts of the U.S. Though death is at the heart of this tradition, it's truly a celebration of life—a time to remember loved ones who have passed and honor their memory. 💜 One of the most cherished ways families celebrate is by creating ofrendas—beautiful altars filled with meaningful items that commemorate those we’ve lost. These altars often include photos, candles, marigolds, favorite foods, and even Calaveras (sugar skulls). At Gift of Life Michigan, we invite you to participate in this beautiful tradition in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month: 📅 Starting October 15th, view heartfelt tributes from our community through a digital ofrenda at golm.org/ofrenda. 📍 You can also visit our Ann Arbor office to see our physical ofrenda displayed in the main lobby. ✨ Whether you celebrate Día de los Muertos or not, anyone can create an ofrenda to remember and celebrate a loved one—this tradition is rooted in indigenous cultures but welcomes everyone, regardless of faith. Join us in reflecting on the gift of life, honoring the legacy of those who have passed, and celebrating the impact one life can have through organ, eye and tissue donation. How can you honor your loved ones? Submit a tribute for our digital ofrenda to photos@golm.org, or visit golm.org to learn more about organ donation and how you can create a lasting legacy. #DonateLife #NHHM
