  • Girl Scouts literally build a brighter future when they declare "I am a carpenter"! 🙌 Every year, Girl Scouts of Western Washington hosts overnight camp sessions tailored to special interests and themes. Our Build the Future Camp offers campers the chance to gain exposure to the construction industry, with hands-on opportunities to build real projects around camp—like new benches for campers to use or birdhouses that can be brought home at the end of the week. 🏕️🥾🛠️🪚 Today, only about 10% of full-time workers in the construction industry are women. And of the construction industry's highest paying jobs—including lawyers, architects, civil engineers, and sales managers—women represent only 31% of all positions.🏗️🚧 Washington state currently ranks in the bottom 10% for gender pay equity, and some of our region's highest paying jobs are in the trades—making it more important than ever to provide girls* with opportunities to explore their passions in construction and create pathways for breaking down the occupational segregation that holds many women back from pursuing their dreams and unlocking their potential. 🙌 At our camps, in workshops led by community partners, and throughout Western Washington, Girl Scouts pursue careers in the trades, and proudly declare—like this year's Girl Scout campers—that “I am a carpenter.” Follow us as we continue to share our "I'm a Girl Scout" campaign, where we'll be highlighting all the ways girls* shatter myths about what they can accomplish and unleash their limitless potential as Girl Scouts! 🫶 Has Girl Scouts helped you unlock your wildest dreams? We'd love to hear your story! Reach out to us at story@girlscoutsww.org, and we might even feature you as part of our "I'm a Girl Scout" campaign. 💚 Learn more about the research cited in this post: https://bit.ly/4d8aHt7 *Girl Scouts of Western Washington uses the term girls inclusively to speak to everyone who identifies with the Girl Scout experience, which includes cisgender girls, gender-expansive youth, transgender girls, non-binary youth, gender nonconforming youth, genderqueer youth, and any girl-identifying human. #GirlScoutsWW #GirlScouts #GirlScoutsRock #GirlsInSteam #GenderPayEquity

  • This spring, Girl Scout Troop 40149 packed their bags for an unforgettable week in Rome, Italy! ✈️ After extensive research and planning meetings, plus some help from ItaliaTours, the troop mapped an itinerary complete with historic sites 🏛️, authentic cuisine 🍕, and cultural experiences they'll never forget 🎨. During their travels, they visited the Spanish Steps, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Campo de' Fiori Market, St. Peter's Basilica, and other famous sites and monuments—all while walking an average of eight miles per day! They also participated in a hands-on pasta making class 🍝, took a train ride to Pompeii 🌋, ate their weight in gelato 🍨, and toured the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Christian crypts, Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and more! After a fun and exhausting trip, Troop 40149 returned home with more than just souvenirs—they brought back memories (and pasta-making skills) to last a lifetime. 💚 🌎 Visit our website to learn more about life-shaping travel experiences with Girl Scouts: https://bit.ly/4e16atd #GirlScoutsWW #GirlScouts #GirlScoutsRock #GirlScoutTravel - Image Descriptions: (Image 01) Collage: From top to bottom, members of Troop 40149 in front of Trevi Fountain, in front of the Victor Emmanuel II Monument, and in the Colosseum. What are Girl Scouts capable of? ✨ At Girl Scouts of Western Washington, we champion youth who are shattering myths about what girls* can accomplish every day. With our "I'm a Girl Scout" campaign, we'll be sharing all the ways girls* unleash their limitless potential as Girl Scouts and uplifting their ambition to celebrate with our community! 🫶 Did you know that research shows that many girls* lose interest in exploring STEAM fields and tech careers when they reach high school? However, for girls* who participate in Girl Scouts, we see an INCREASE in their interest to pursue careers in STEAM and tech between elementary school and high school. In fact, a recent survey found that 60% of Girl Scouts ages 5–18 frequently participate in STEAM activities, as opposed to only 35% of girls* the same age who are not Girl Scouts. 💡🔬🧬 Washington state currently ranks in the bottom 10% for gender pay equity, and some of our region's highest paying jobs are in STEAM industries—making it more important than ever to provide girls* with opportunities to explore their passions in STEAM and create pathways for breaking down the occupational segregation that holds many women back from pursuing their dreams and unlocking their potential. 🙌 Backed by supportive mentors and peers, Girl Scouts pursue careers in STEAM, and proudly declare—like Girl Scout Sammy—that “I am a scientist.” Has Girl Scouts helped you unlock your wildest dreams? We'd love to hear your story! Reach out to us at story@girlscoutsww.org, and we might even feature you as part of our "I'm a Girl Scout" campaign. 💚 Learn more about the research cited in this post: https://bit.ly/4fkH8a0 📸 Photo credit: Michael B.
