✨ Spotlight on the Elliott Family! ✨ In celebration of the International Day of the Girl on October 11, we honor the Elliott family’s commitment to empowering girls. The Elliott family has been a treasured partner of Girls on the Run-Chicago for more than a decade, supporting our mission through fundraising, matching gift funds, and event sponsorships. We’re so grateful to Jennifer Elliott, a longtime Board Member and former Board President (2019-2021), who brings her entire family into dedicating time, talents, and resources to uplift Chicagoland’s future women leaders. “Together, we break the barriers that prevent girls from reaching their full potential and build a brighter, more equitable future.” - Jennifer Elliott One of the family's favorite GOTRC memories? Attending a GOTR team’s practice and witnessing the girls’ engagement, wisdom, and growth firsthand. Jennifer and Judy shared that they loved seeing how GOTRC inspires girls socially, emotionally, and physically, helping them to develop life skills with confidence. 🌷This Friday, October 11, is International Day of the Girl!🌷 It’s a very special day at Girls on the Run-Chicago, because we’re all about supporting girls in being active, strong, and confident to tap into their limitless potential! According to the 2021-2022 National Survey of Children's Health, only 20% of kids aged 6-17 get 60 minutes of physical activity daily, and only 16.5% of girls meet physical activity guidelines. Not being active can take a toll on mental health. In the Aspen Institute’s Community State of Play Youth Survey, 25% of youth who reported zero days of activity felt hopeless or depressed almost every day—double the rate of those who stayed active. That’s why our programming is intentionally designed to include physical activity and to foster a lifelong love of movement. 92% of our GOTR participants say they now like being active thanks to our program! And girls who were the least active at the start of the season increased their physical activity by 40%—and they’re keeping it up after the season's end! Girls like Aylin are finding joy in movement. She said, “I was never a sports person, but with GOTR, it was more fun, I felt safe, and it wasn’t a competition. It was all about doing whatever you can.”🌟 Let’s continue to uplift girls and encourage them to move, dream, and thrive! #DayOfTheGirl #GirlsOnTheRun #EmpowerGirls #StayActive #ChicagoGOTR #MentalHealthMatters #GOTRChicago #InternationalDayOfTheGirl

🌸 Have you heard of International Day of the Girl? 🌸 This important day on October 11 shines a spotlight on the unique difficulties girls face, and how we can help them overcome these problems and break barriers. According to the Girls’ Index by Ruling Our Experiences study, many girls struggle with peer relationships. More than half of 5th- and 6th-grade girls report that drama and fighting make them dislike school. Even more, 67% say that most girls feel like they’re in competition with one another. At Girls on the Run-Chicago, our programming fosters positive and healthy relationships between girls, giving them the tools to navigate conflict while they build friendships that last a lifetime! The majority (80%) of girls credited Girls on the Run with their ability to resolve conflicts with their peers. ✨ “At Girls on the Run, I learned how to be true to myself and how to support others. I met some of my biggest mentors and my favorite people. The connections I made are long-lasting and powerful. The skills I learned are still with me today. And I still use them when I am struggling.” - Lilly C. Together, we can help girls not just survive but thrive! 💪 #GirlsOnTheRun #InternationalDayOfTheGirl #DayOfTheGirl #GOTRChicago

Do you know what October 11 marks? It’s the International Day of the Girl, a day celebrating the power and limitless potential of girls! At Girls on the Run-Chicago we champion girls everyday, but the Day of the Girl is a time when the entire world comes together to listen to girls and invest in their futures. Girls today face many challenges. For example, recent research showed that eight out of 10 girls feel they are going to “explode” because of pressure. They need support now more than ever, and that’s why our programming is intentionally designed to give them the tools they need to navigate adolescence. We teach them critical skills like identifying and moving through difficult emotions and believing in themselves when times are tough. When you invest in girls, you help break the barriers holding them back, creating positive ripple effects for their families, communities, and society. Together, we break the barriers that prevent girls from reaching their full potential, and build a brighter, more equitable future. We’re looking forward to celebrating this special day with you! #DayOfTheGirl #InternationalDayOfTheGirl #GirlsOnTheRun #GOTRChicago #ChicagoGirls #EmpowerGirls
