Nitin Mantri, GivingTuesday Advisory Group Member, knows a thing or two about the impact of generosity. For him, it shows up everyday in his work as CEO of Avian WE, a leading integrated communications consultancy based in India, and the Regional Executive Managing Director for APAC at WE Communications, one of the world’s largest independent communications agencies.  Early in his career, Nitin was leading a major project that hit a critical roadblock, threatening both its success and his confidence.  Just when he was about to lose hope, a senior colleague stepped in to offer advice and work alongside Nitin well into the night.  This commitment and selflessness shown by his colleague not only helped him overcome the obstacle but also illuminated a valuable lesson about leadership and kindness.  Since then, Nitin has made it a point to extend the same level of generosity to his colleagues, knowing firsthand how transformative acts of empathy and collaboration can be. #GivingTuesday

Do our differences affect our generosity? In this special edition of GivingPulse, we dive deep into the mechanics of generosity behaviors as they relate to depolarization. We found that people who have higher civic intent are more willing to give across ideological boundaries. Civic intent is defined as, “having good intentions around helping those in need.” These are the kinds of people who are asked to participate and are aware of opportunities to give — they also don’t look at differences when deciding to help others.
