Until Friday last week, we have facilitated the distribution of 16,360 meals to people in different displacement shelters and we will continue to do over the coming month.   In the North of Lebanon, GIZ has been supporting people and communities through various projects and with several local partners.   With the recent increase in internal displacement to shelters in the #North and #Beirut, we are addressing their needs through these projects and have expanded our reach to Beirut.   We are currently facilitating the distribution of hot meals to people in different shelters in #Tripoli, #Zgharta, #Mina, and #Beirut, while also creating short-term employment opportunities by engaging workers in the meal preparation kitchens.   Commissioned to Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).   Our partners: Wahat Al Farah, Ruwwad Al Tanmeya, and Souk El Tayeb

In the face of Lebanon's ongoing challenges, GIZ Lebanon remains steadfast in fulfilling our mission. We continue to deliver reliable support to those in need, working closely with our partners to adapt swiftly and respond to the evolving needs of the communities we serve. Our commitment to improving living conditions remains as strong as ever. This year, we supported 26 social enterprises in #Lebanon with need-based #training, #coaching, and #financial #grants. Together with the enterprises, we contributed to creating over 600 #jobs. Below are some pictures form our closing event that happened last week. "Thanks to the program, we achieved financial sustainability through its many pillars. We now know how to ensure the continuity of our business in the future," says Wassim El Hage, Managing Director of Agonista, a participant in the YELA program. The YELA program made a significant impact, empowering enterprises to support their communities by enhancing job opportunities for young adults, women, and people with disabilities. Hanan Ismail founder of #Garbaliser told us: "A highlight for me was understanding the impact we had by creating opportunities for people to earn passive income and find local jobs. This has made a lasting difference, supporting stable livelihoods and growing the local economy." The YELA program is implemented by GIZ in partnership with Alfanar Venture Philanthropy and funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Last month, 270 #farmers and #women in #Shouf area received certificates for completing trainings in #sustainable #farming, #food processing, and #nutrition. Alongside these certificates, they received vouchers that could be redeemed at dedicated local shops for #agricultural and food processing supplies. Read more here: https://bit.ly/4g5jG0N Just last week, another 270 farmers and women in #Aley completed the same training and received their certificates and vouchers. Among them was Salma El Hakeem, who participated in the bee-keeping training, and it was a game-changer for her. With the guidance of a trainer, Salma and her husband were able to identify a disease affecting their bee farm. Now equipped with the skills to sustain and diagnose her bees, Salma is actively applying this knowledge. Raed Zaydan, the beekeeping trainer told us: “Who says women can’t be beekeepers? The fact that women are often more organized than men suggests that they can excel at it, perhaps even better.” This project is funded by Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in partnership with Shouf Biosphere Reserve.

𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 ➡️ vs 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 ♻️ vs 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 ♾️: What’s the difference and which is the better approach? As landfills overflow, the Circular Economy offers a refreshing alternative to waste challenges. Unlike the Linear Economy, which follows a take-make-toss pattern, and the limited cycle of the Recycling Economy, the Circular Economy closes the loop with the 4 R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover. The Circular Economy is all about creating smarter systems where products aren’t just used and tossed aside but are continually revived and repurposed. 'TVET School Advisory Boards' recommend changes to the Lebanese 'Directorate General for Vocational and Technical Education' (#DGVTE) so that provided #education meets local #job market needs. These boards, made up of school management and local #businesses, support students and graduates in preparing them for the labour market, by offering work-based learning and job placements. We partnered with ITCILO, International Labour Organization, and #DGVTE to provide training to 44 board members, who received certification after completing the program. This training, led by 15 trained and experienced Lebanese trainers who are now multipliers in delivering the capacity building training for new members, covered a wide range of topics including #governance, the role of industry in TVET institutions, stakeholders, #operations in TVET, #quality assurance, action planning, #compliance, community engagement, and #leadership. Rita Akiki, Head of the Nursing Department in Abou Jaoude Hospital, and trainer and member of the nursing school advisory board in Bir Hassan told us: 'Being part of the School Advisory Board is very beneficial to us as a hospital, as this has provided us with the opportunity to take part in the community to support the youth in building their capacities through providing them with on-the-job training opportunities.' Here are some pictures. 👇🏼 This project is funded by Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) #GermanCooperation
