Day four roundup of Glasgow Tech Week which was a BIG one! ⚙ Thursday was the day for our headline event Glasgow Tech Fest. Now in its third year, we had incredible speakers, exhibitors and networking opportunities! We opened with an incredible keynote from Dr Maggie Aderin Pocock who discussed breaking barriers and reaching for the stars. We then had a great fireside chat with Gerry McCusker, founder of Dog and Amy McCusker founder of WeeBox (K-N Trading Ltd) on their entrepreneurial journeys chaired by Alison Porter, portfolio manager at Janus Henderson Investors. Glasgow City Region published their annual tech report and we were delighted to welcome Alex Hamilton from Dealroom.co to present some of the key findings. Jackie Waring, AccelerateHER chaired a panel on developing inclusive and calorie ecosystems and how we can all help implement this. Co-founder of Glasgow business Axis Studios Richard Scott showcased their work and how they’ve grown and are now working on global films and games and with companies like Netflix. We had our scale and grow panel where we learnt more about some amazing Glasgow businesses. The panel was chaired by Gillian Boston, Johnston Carmichael Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers and shed light on how to grow your business. itison founder Oli Norman joined Gemma Carpenter for an insightful and funny fireside chat on investing in the future and his own business journey. Finally, Jason Bradbury closed out the day on a hoverboard and shared his insights on the future of tech in a high-energy keynote. We also rounded off the day with our official follow up event TecTonic by Foras. This was a unique event with circus performers, business support sessions, panels, face paint and networking drinks! We’re still going and heading into day five and hope to see more of you there!

It was so much fun to host and chair the KPMG UK ‘Flip the Script’ event during #GlasgowTechWeek yesterday. With a packed room of founders, we kicked off with Sarah Abrahams from KPMG | Acceleris sharing her view on VC trends and insights. Sarah commented that green shoots for early-stage funding are beginning to show again, with healthier deal volumes and opportunities for start-ups. But of these deals taking shape, they are certainly taking longer to complete than even just two short years ago. Our panel – David Milroy Anne Muir, Patricia El-Jichi, CFA and Duncan Thorburn then kindly shared insights on their strategy, approach in market, what they look for, and how they help founders and their businesses. Their key takeaways from the panel session were: 💰 "Financial modelling is critical. Spend money on getting a good financial model produced - one that is neither too simple nor too complex."    📑 "Remember, it's a sales process. Start early, get to know your investors and have a strong story."    🤼 "Understand who your investors are. How can they support you? Can you work together in challenging times?" ⏲ "Before you even begin thinking funding pitches, research your investors. Who do they invest in? Why? Don’t waste your time - or theirs!" It was brilliant to have so many founders in one place, the fact that people arrived early, and left late, was affirming that we delivered something relevant to the community! Huge thanks to the panellists, audience, and all the KPMG ‘behind the scenes’ people for making this run smoothly. If you attended please let me know your thoughts, what were your key take-aways? #KPMGintheUK #KPMGinScotland #investment #venturecapital Alisdair Gunn Hayley Skinner Gemma Carpenter James Kergon Nabela Ahmed Michael Kindness Fiona Robertson CA Gail Ball Vishal Chopra Susan Dunlop

Yesterday, 💡 Thiago Carmo participated in one amazing panel in the Glasgow Tech Week. He comments: "It was a great experience to learn we, at Passion4Social, are Digital Dominators. In this panel, I could engage with questions to reflect on innovation, web presence, social media, cybersecurity, AI and automation. The highlight was having the opportunity to talk about the importance of accessibility (and inclusion) permeating all digital topics, and showcasing our lived experience in all these areas." It was a great event hosted by Technology Coaching, led by Sooz Young (big thank you!!!) Also in the panel, these wonderful women creatively using technology in their businesses: Laura Maginess from GLASGLOW GIRLS CLUB Carol Murdoch from Love Outdoor Learning We hope we represented it well. If you participated in this, leave your comments here. #Accessibility #Inclusion #AI #Automation #Digital #SocialMedia #Websites #GlasgowTechWeek
