In an insightful article featured in a special edition of USA TODAY celebrating Native American Heritage Month, alumna Danna Walker highlights her recent adventure in service with Global Volunteers at the Blackfeet Nation in Montana. In this heartfelt reflection, Danna recounts how the service program deepened her understanding of Indigenous identities and the importance of community engagement. From working alongside Blackfeet families to revitalizing community spaces, our volunteers contributed to meaningful projects that foster connection and respect. “This experience was more meaningful than we could have imagined, and I can say ‘we’ because our group bonded in the way those in a platoon might,” she says. This summer, Ad Hoc donated 30 laptops to Ukrainian refugee children living in Wiśniew, Poland as part of a charity program to help children and families connect with other refugees. Many refugees and families in this area have no access or limited access to computers, and we hope these laptops can provide a way for children to continue their studies in their native language and potentially an avenue to better-paying remote jobs for adults. Thank you to Global Volunteers and Adam Robinson and family for putting these laptops to good use and helping ensure the recipients were set up for success. Read more about the summer camp where the kids received their laptops in our latest blog post. https://lnkd.in/gFbydvAW

Earlier this summer I had the amazing opportunity to volunteer abroad in Nepal with Global Volunteers on behalf of the University of Central Missouri. In my two impactful weeks in Kathmandu, I taught English and computer skills, prepared college students for their visa interviews, worked with community leaders, and even painted a school! I am very grateful for the amazing memories, connections, and friendships I made along the way and I cannot wait to volunteer again soon! #GlobalVolunteers #StudyAbroad #CulturalExchange

Global Volunteers’ multi-faceted partnership with Rise Against Hunger is a model for international cooperation to multiply NGO impact. Through Journey to Serve, Rise Against Hunger encourages like-minded people associated with their multiple programs to participate in Global Volunteers service program abroad to “help end hunger, create food security, improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture on a global scale.” A significant contribution is Rise Against Hunger’s donation of fortified meals to Global Volunteers’ Reaching Children’s Potential (RCP) Program in Tanzania. Global Volunteers, in turn, encourages its volunteers to invest in local meal packaging events that supply the food sent abroad to nourish the RCP children and families we serve. In a remote village in Tanzania, 30-year-old Haruna, single mother of four, joined the Reaching Children’s Potential (RCP) program. RCP is a joint venture between Global Volunteers and Rise Against Hunger, as well as other local partners. The project goal is to ensure every child in the community can reach their full potential. The program’s assistance begins during pregnancy and continues through a child’s 18th birthday, with a primary focus on the first 1,000 days of life. Haruna shared, “For me and my family, the meals have played a big part in improving my children's health…we have nutritious meals that support us.” Learn more about Haruna’s family’s journey toward food security in our latest blog post: https://lnkd.in/gRdbpWpC . . . #RiseAgainstHunger #ItStartsWithAMeal #HungerChampions
