We help people transform potential into opportunity.
About us
Our mission is to help people transform potential into opportunity. Goodwill is much more than just retail stores. Since 1923, Chattanooga Goodwill Industries has helped people with barriers to employment get the training and support they need to find competitive employment in the community. We’ve been in the business of empowering people through work and employment for over a century! We provide a hand-up, not a handout, to people who face a variety of barriers. Challenges might be mental, physical, and emotional disabilities or other disadvantages such as a lack of education or a long absence from the working world. We offer participants job training and other resources to find and keep a job. People who come to Goodwill want to be self-sufficient members of the community. They know the sense of independence and self-worth that comes with earning a paycheck. Goodwill is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, which means that all material and financial donations are fully tax-deductible as allowed by law. We are a member agency of Goodwill Industries International and United Way of Greater Chattanooga, and we are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Chattanooga Goodwill Industries serves 23 counties in Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia.

Last quarter, at the Downtown Chattanooga Rotary Club, our CEO Gena R. Weldon, MBA, CE, was welcomed as a new Chattanooga Rotarian. “Today, as the leader of Goodwill Chattanooga, I have the privilege of serving a community that spans across 23 counties in Tennessee and Georgia. With over 350 employees, 17 retail locations, an opportunity campus, and two opportunity centers, Goodwill embodies the spirit of empowerment, providing invaluable resources and opportunities to individuals striving to overcome barriers to employment. What I value most is what I spend my time and energy on, which now includes Rotary. This is why today members of my family join me—my husband of 25 years, Kent, and two of our four sons, Greyson and Griffin—as well as some of the remarkable individuals who make up our Goodwill family—whom I call our "Blue Shirt Heroes." Their tireless dedication to our mission of helping people transform potential into opportunity inspires me daily. Today, as a new Chattanooga Rotarian, I look forward to getting to know all of you and serving alongside you as we strive to make a difference in the lives of others and the world around us.” — Gena R. Weldon, President and CEO, Goodwill Industries of the Greater Chattanooga Area

At Goodwill Industries of the Greater Chattanooga Area, we feel our employees are Blue Shirt Heroes. To show appreciation for our team members who go the extra mile and embody our mission, vision, values, and guiding principles we have launched a CEO Challenge Coin program. On July 9th, Anthony Hastings became the first recipient of the CEO Challenge Coin, presented by our CEO Gena Weldon, “as a token of our appreciation, I am proud to present Anthony with the CEO Challenge Coin, a symbol of his outstanding contributions.” Anthony joined Goodwill this year and has demonstrated exceptional dedication to our values of people, integrity, commitment, and continuous improvement as a Store Associate at our Hixson, TN store. Amanda Stewart, the Hixson store manager, describes Anthony as “always respectful, a go-getter, and someone who can be relied on.” Join us in congratulating Anthony and celebrating the incredible work he does every day by putting people first!

Great night for Goodwill Night at Chattanooga Lookouts. Goodwill will be collecting new and gently used backpacks at the game to give to local elementary schools. The Smiling G stopped greeting fans long enough to pose with our President and CEO Gena R. Weldon, MBA, CE and her family.
