If you’re struggling with asking for help with your job search, think about a time that someone asked you for help. How did it make you feel that they came to you and asked for help? Flattered, right? How did you feel after you were able to help? I bet you felt good. Here's a mindset shift: when you accept help, you give someone else the gift of feeling valued. Being helpful gives people purpose. When you never ask for help, you're taking away that opportunity. Jessica Hernandez, CPBS, CDCS

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐣𝐨𝐛 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬. And not just on your resume. It matters in your conversations with connections... hiring managers... interviewers... when networking... What you share and how you share it will dictate how conversations flow and how others can/cannot help you in your job search. Keep your conversations positive, future-focused, and engaging. Here are typical statements job seekers make and better alternatives: 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟: I'm unemployed or open to opportunities (too vague). 𝐒𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬: I enjoy working with companies that do XYZ. 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟: Please consider me for this opportunity. (weak positioning language) 𝐒𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬: Let's evaluate how my expertise in transforming global operations aligns with your strategic objectives. 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟: I'm a marketing executive at Nike (focus is on company vs. you) 𝐒𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬: I shape how global brands connect with their audiences. Which of these are you going to start using first? Now that you have these persuasive language hacks, let's master more power moves. → Join 115,000+ job seekers getting weekly job search shortcuts: https://lnkd.in/egWf5KbH. 📌 Save this post to reference later! I help executives convey their unsung achievements & attract career-defining roles | Executive Resume Writer | 4X Certified Personal Brand & Job Search Strategist | LinkedIn Top Voice | Free Job Search Tools ⤵️
The hidden job market found me. I was in a position for a year and the salary increase I was promised never came through (tip: get that in writing, lesson learned the hard way). I shared with my parents that I was going to start searching again. A week later my Dad's colleague reached out to him and said, "Hey, isn't your daughter in HR?" One of his client companies had an opening and because he and my Dad had often chatted he knew I was in HR in the same industry. He reached out and asked me to apply. I did, got the offer and a 40% salary increase. It's not always who you know, it may be who they know (weak ties). Don't be afraid to let those closest to you know that you're looking - and what type of roles you're targeting *key piece of info*. A 2024 survey from LinkedIn found that 70% of its members found roles through connections. 60% of people from an HBR study found their most recent role through a past colleague. Which friends, family members, and/or past colleagues can you reach out to today to let them know you're open to opportunities? Have you ever landed a job through a LinkedIn connection? What was your approach? Tips for connecting with hiring managers in the attached images ⤵️ Get my free, 5 min. weekly Smart Job Search newsletter—used by 114,800+ professionals to land their ideal jobs faster. Hey Job Seekers, I'm working on a premium newsletter subscription packed with tools, templates, scripts, guides, how-to videos and more. I'd love to hear from you - what would you find valuable in a weekly premium newsletter subscription? For example, in the first newsletter I'm dropping: - a completely tailored job search plan - checklist of everything you need to have (and do) for a successful job search, - a target company list template (to curate a list of target companies and connections) - and a how-to video for using AI to create the target company list -with contact details- for you. It's a mind-blowing hack, I'm over-the-top excited to share it. I'm thinking about tackling hot topics like: - How to job search over 50 - Combatting age bias - AI in your job search - Networking for introverts - Ready-to-use scripts for networking Practical. No-nonsense. Ready-to-implement hacks, tips, and strategies. What else would help you? What would you expect to pay for tailored, expertly-crafted resources delivered to your inbox every week? Thanks for the feedback! Jessica Hernandez, CPBS, CDCS

Ah, "fall" in Florida—where the most dramatic change is a lone maple leaf daring to turn orange. Mother Nature's subtle nod to seasons, or just a tree's cry for pumpkin spice? 🍁☀ So what does this barely-there autumn have to do with your career? Just like Florida's reluctant fall, career transitions don't always announce themselves with a dramatic flourish. Sometimes, the signs of necessary change are subtle—a slight shift in your professional satisfaction, a quiet urge for growth. Don't wait for the entire forest to turn golden. That single maple leaf might just be your cue to explore new opportunities. After all, in careers and seasons, those who notice the nuances often reap the richest harvests. 🍂💼 Jessica Hernandez, CPBS, CDCS

A gentle reminder that change, like autumn leaves, can be both beautiful and challenging. 🍂 The truth is that we're all works in progress, especially when it comes to our careers. Whether you're healing from a job loss, recovering from burnout, or searching for that elusive 'dream role', know this—you're not alone in this season of transition. What I'm learning? Healing isn't linear. Some days you're the vibrant maple leaf, ready to take on the world. Other days, you're the oak leaf, holding on a little longer. Both are perfectly okay. 'I am in charge of my career' isn't just an affirmation—it's a powerful truth. Even when the job market feels as unpredictable as fall weather, you have the inner strength to navigate it. 'I have the power to create change' reminds us that every application sent, every interview attended, every skill learned is a step toward growth. You're not just job searching; you're growing. We're in this together, turning challenges into opportunities, one resume, one interview, one self-compassionate reminder at a time. Jessica Hernandez, CPBS, CDCS
