Children in the child welfare system are more likely to have special education needs, but they may not always receive appropriate services. CASA/GAL volunteers can assist with connecting families to resources such as classroom essentials, backpacks and weekend food programs, so children and youth feel prepared for the school year ahead. I have been a CASA in the City of Richmond program for the last almost 2 years and I can attest that this advocacy work for children in the court system is SO important and so necessary!! If you can't donate your time, consider a financial donation to helping out CASA and the children of the Greater Richmond (and now Petersburg!!) area.
SCAN's CASA program needs your help to advocate for children in Petersburg! You can help ensure all children involved in a case at the Juvenile and Domestic Courts has an advocate because all children deserve a safe, permanent home and the opportunity to thrive. SCAN's CASA program recently expanded to serve Petersburg and is in need of volunteers to serve children in both Petersburg and Richmond. Hear more in a recent story from WTVR CBS 6 News that includes an interview with SCAN Volunteer Coordinator, Sarah-Keel Crews. Learn more about becoming a CASA in Petersburg or Richmond and apply to be part of our Fall 2024 CASA training class at https://lnkd.in/ezf6kvWz. https://lnkd.in/evNR35Hu
