Our team is on the ground in Asheville, North Carolina, and the surrounding area, working to bring critically needed supplies and assistance to partners and the community after Hurricane #Helene. We've delivered essential items to several local distribution hubs, including a community center, Banfield Pet Hospital and the Asheville Humane Society. The local community center is buzzing with activity as families arrive to pick up essential supplies—everything from food to personal hygiene products. We even brought treats to brighten the day for kids whose schools remain closed. Displaced families are gathering here for support and safety. For those unable to leave their homes, we're partnering with local groups going door-to-door to deliver pet food and check in on families. At Banfield, we delivered socks, shoes, and hygiene items for employees currently living at the hospital. Many have temporarily moved in, both because of damage to their homes and because the hospital needs 24/7 coverage for the continual influx of animals. Residents are dropping off pets found wandering in the wreckage, and families who lost their homes are bringing their own pets there for safety. At Asheville Humane, we dropped off 700 lbs. of dog food, with more supplies on the way. Your overwhelming support powers these important #DisasterRelief efforts. 125 pets are now safe on the ground in Wisconsin after our emergency #Helene transport! ✈️ This lifesaving Good Flight, in response to the hurricane, provides relief to South Carolina shelter Lucky Dog Animal Rescue by freeing up space for the influx of pets. Plus, these dogs and cats who were in the shelter prior to Helene now have the second chances they so deserve at loving forever homes! Our pet passengers are now settling in at our receiving shelters. We are grateful to Humane Animal Welfare Society - HAWS of Waukesha, Elmbrook Humane Society, The Washington County Humane Society, Humane Society of Jefferson County, Dane County Humane Society, Eau Claire Community Humane Association, Green County Humane Society and Wisconsin Humane Society for opening their doors and hearts. Our team is busy preparing for tomorrow's evacuation of Sigrid, Missy, Wellington, Bessie, Skittles, Mouse, Orlando and over 100 other pets from South Carolina in the wake of Hurricane Helene. These shelter pets were residents with our partners at Lucky Dog Animal Rescue and had not found homes before the storm hit. Your support is helping us fly them to Wisconsin, where they'll be safe and soon find loving families. Greater Good Charities is on the ground distributing 5,000 urgently-needed hygiene kits donated by The WASH Foundation, with the help of our partners Feeding Tampa Bay. With at least 90 confirmed dead across the Southeast and over 1,000 missing in North Carolina alone due to Hurricane #Helene, the devastation from historic flooding and landslides is “worse than you can ever imagine." FIELD UPDATE: The Greater Good Charities team is on the ground in St. Petersburg, FL, with local partners handing out essential supplies and emergency packs to countless local families impacted and displaced by Hurricane Helene. We're setting up locations for pet pharmaceuticals in impacted areas while evaluating the need for veterinary support. Additionally, this Wednesday Greater Good Charities will airlift more than 60 shelter pets who were in South Carolina shelters prior to the storm to Wisconsin. This will provide more room for shelters to handle the influx of displaced pets as a result of heavy rains and flooding. We are also working to save bees in the area after the hurricane wiped out plant forage and hive infrastructure in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and surrounding states. Alongside Mann Lake, The Florida State Beekeepers Association and others, Greater Good Charities will provide temporary food to save bees. More information and updates to come. Hurricane Helene has killed more than 45 people and left 4 million without power as it moves across the Southeast with intense wind and flooding rain. The Greater Good Charities team is on the ground in Florida, where truckloads of urgently requested supplies are arriving today.
