This week, our staff took a moment to connect and welcome new staff at our Fall 2024 retreat in Virginia. We went on a hike through Great Falls National Park and completed an escape room, all while engaging in discussions to learn more about each other and plan for the year ahead. Working towards equity in the environmental sector looks different every day. Taking time to ground ourselves as a team, soaking in fall foliage and failing miserably at cracking escape room clues, we prioritized our team building and well-being. We’re feeling thankful for our small but mighty team, Adriane Alicea, Juliana Ojeda, Shao Zhi Zhong, Maliyah W., and Layla Razek! Special shoutout to Maliyah for being the only person to solve an escape room clue without any hints.

Last week, our Managing Director, Adriane Alicea, attended the New Era, New Leaders: America the Beautiful for All Coalition Conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Over three transformative days, speakers and attendees came together as a community to hear a diverse range of voices and perspectives from the conservation movement. "I want to thank all the organizers of this tremendous conference. It has been a space where people can come as themselves, share their hopes, and work on changing our shared future. Being in Puerto Rico, the land of my family, with fellow advocates discussing narrative change and focusing policies on justice for our communities has been a restorative opportunity. I'm excited to continue working together to ensure our conservation sector is equitable." — Adriane Alicea
