Choosing between LEAF and My Green Lab certifications?

Here's my #ReadoftheWeek on comparing certification programs in the lab In view of the high consumption of resources in #laboratories, the amount of #plasticwaste generated daily or the use of hazardous chemicals, many laboratory staff, (doctoral) students or post-docs are asking themselves how they can overcome these challenges and make their laboratory work more sustainable. A standardized approach is offered by programs such as #LEAF from UCL or the #MyGreenLab Certification, which help participants to tackle these challenges in a structured way. Both programs include a #certification that not only provides an assessment of how ecologically the laboratory is already working, but also shows the outside world what has already been achieved. One question I am often asked in this context is: What is the difference and which program is better suited to our needs? There is now a comprehensive study by Bianca Schell and Nico Bruns in which they examine and compare both programs: https://lnkd.in/egAHaHsN They not only compiled their own experiences from participating in both programs, but also surveyed and evaluated user experiences from laboratories across Germany that have participated in either the LEAF or My Green Lab program. This included, for example, experiences regarding user-friendliness, background information and resources to learn more about certain topics, the level of detail or how well the individual programs are adapted to German conditions. ➡ In short, each program has its strengths and weaknesses - but both contribute to #sustainability in the lab and raise the awareness. Finally, Bianca provides us with a guidance in her article that will give anyone who is unsure which program to choose a good basis for deciding which program suits them best. 👏 💪 Great work and a must read for anyone looking to make their lab more sustainable. 🧪🧬🌱 Martin Farley, James Connelly, Thomas Freese, Patrick Penndorf, Valeria Scagliotti, Ph.D., Nikoline Borgermann,Jan Heidelberger, Annika Weißenborn, Green Labs NL, Sustainable European Laboratories Network, Nach Labs, My Green Lab #greenlab #sustainablelab #sustainablescience #lifescience #greenchemistry
