As part of Communications Workers of America, Groundswell Workers United (GWU), Groundswell Fund, and Groundswell Action Fund are thrilled to announce Groundswell's first (and groundbreaking) CBA! Unionization is happening across the nonprofit sector. This type of transformation comes with learning opportunities, challenges, and ample bright spots. Pro-union management approaches beyond neutrality are being developed and built into Groundswell’s organizational culture. Our goal is to be a sector model on how the unionization process can be a valuable tool in living our values. Groundswell is a proud pro-worker and pro-union organization! #ProUnion #GroundswellFund #GroundswellActionFund #CBA

Every day, Groundswell grantees work to address safe, accessible, and quality reproductive and gender-affirming care. We believe liberation means investing in the most impacted communities to drive systemic change and ensure that reproductive and gender justice are integral to collective liberation. It is about the everyday work in everyday spaces throughout all corners of the world. Reproductive justice is impossible until all of us are free. Today I honor and celebrate the leadership of Yamani Yansà Hernandez. Yamani became the CEO of the Groundswell Fund just over a year ago, and in that time Yamani has been both an anchor and a beacon. As an anchor to staff, board and the movement organizations that Groundswell supports, Yamani brings a spirit of grounded openness, kindness and care. As a beacon, Yamani models how to be your highest and wisest self. At a time where there is so much transition, instability and disruption, Yamani moves with unflappable focus to liberate resources for movements. It is an honor to witness your visionary leadership and to work shoulder to shoulder with you as a board member. Huge congratulations!

In “Bat Signal 4: Democrats’ Underfunded Ground Game,” the Movement Voter Project highlights the deep lack of funding for independently run, locally-based voter mobilization efforts. Groundswell Fund is proud to support organizations like Florida Rising and I Be Black Girl in Nebraska, which ensure reproductive rights are defended where they're needed most. It’s time to close the funding gap and invest in grassroots movements that protect our democracy and reproductive justice. "Sovereignty at First Breath" was a session at our 2024 Birth Equity Funders Summit that focused on the benefits of Indigenous birthing and breastfeeding practices and the challenges Indigenous communities have faced when trying to keep these practices alive. Presenters Yuki Davis of the Groundswell Fund, Helena Jacobs of the Alaska Native Birthworkers Community, A-dae Briones of the First Nations Development Institute, and Zintkala Mahpiya Win Black Owl of He Sapa Birthing Network discussed the strategies they have used to overcome institutional barriers around the use of traditional maternal health practices. These barriers must be addressed since traditional birthing practices are community-based, patient-focused models of care that have been proven to be beneficial to both the birthgiver and child. Reproductive justice is more than a single-issue movement—it’s about access to healthcare, economic security, and human rights for all. For decades, Latinx-led grassroots organizations like the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice have fought tirelessly against systems that limit reproductive freedom. As a Groundswell Fund grantee, National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice mobilizes communities and advocates for policy change. To ensure lasting impact, we must invest in these movements now, where the fight for reproductive justice intersects with race, gender, and economic equity.
