Love, Hate & the Anatomy of Change: A Five Day Group Relations Conference at the Tavistock Center   Change is constant, inevitable, horrible and beautiful. Change has also become a constant element of organizational life.   Even the changes we desire the most incur a loss. Something left behind which needs to be let go of. Unwanted change must be processed and lived with.   We all have a relationship to change which is both internal and external. Internal in that it is personal, and affects our body, thoughts, and memories. External, in that circumstances in and out of our control require that we adapt to new and unfamiliar situations.    Organizational and institutional life is changing more rapidly than ever. How might we engage with all our capacities and potential?   This five-day Group Relations Conference will offer an opportunity to study at a deep level our personal relationship to organizational life, change, and our potential for autonomy, and our dependency on others.    Working in a temporary organization we will co create a system in which we can explore and experiment with roles, authority, ideas, and action.   There are two ways to join the conference. Those who have attended a conference before can join the Building Experience Group and build on their experience and understanding of Group Relations. You can also join as a Conference Member   There are also two subsidised spaces available on application for individuals who experience disadvantage/barriers to attendance. There has been a lot of interest in the conference this year and we can’t guarantee that everyone who applies will get a place. I am honored to receive a three conference contract as director of the group relations program at California State University, Dominguez Hills. CSUDH is a Hispanic-serving institution (HSI) with a proud history of educating students who have historically been underserved by higher education. This population focus dovetails with my own experience as a first generation college and graduate student with Latinx heritage. When I thought of a theme for my first conference of the series, I wanted to push the envelope by studying gender expansiveness. While trans, nonbinary, queer, and gender expansive folx inhabit our institutions, organizations, and workplaces, their experiences are often marginalized and go unspoken. Cis and straight allies also have organizational challenges related to gender that frequently go unexpressed and unworked. This conference aims to target these realities directly for study. We hope to create a safe enough container for attendees to learn about power and authority in organizations through a gender expansive lens.
