GrowNYC was thrilled to welcome another team from Bloomberg to our McCarren Park Demonstration Garden for a day of meaningful volunteer work. Their efforts—building, staining, and sanding picnic tables, and decorating produce bags—play a crucial role in sustaining our work across New York City. Corporate partnerships like this are vital in helping GrowNYC continue our mission to create green spaces, improve food access, and build resilient communities. With Bloomberg’s help, GrowNYC is making a lasting impact, one project at a time.

About us
GrowNYC is a hands-on non-profit with a mission to empower all New Yorkers with equitable access to fresh, locally grown food and neighborhood green spaces, reduce waste, and care for the environment. GrowNYC was originally created in 1970 as the Council on the Environment of New York City (CENYC). Born out of the spirit of the first Earth Day, CENYC was initially a policy-based organization, writing comprehensive reports about quality of life issues like air quality, traffic, and noise. Today, we serve over 3 million New Yorkers annually through a robust network of sustainability programs and resources. Our programs focus our efforts on four key areas: Food Access & Agriculture, Green Spaces, Zero Waste and Education. Since 1970, GrowNYC has been rolling up its sleeves alongside NYC residents to: - Provide access to healthy, fresh, local food for all New Yorkers -Grow and maintain vibrant green spaces and community gardens. -Help New Yorkers recycle more and reduce waste. -Create the next generation of environmental leaders through hands-on education programs.

Disparities in access to healthy foods are a reality across NYC, with underserved communities facing the greatest challenges. But there’s hope—here’s how GrowNYC’s Farmstand program makes a difference: our Farmstands provide weekly opportunities for these communities to buy fresh, local fruits, vegetables, and food staples at below-market prices. How do we keep prices low? -We transparently buy food through GrowNYC’s Food Hub. By purchasing in bulk and subsidizing our distribution costs through fundraising, we’re able to pass the savings on to New Yorkers. -All our food access sites, including Farmstand, accept nutrition benefits such as SNAP/EBT, WIC and Senior FMNP, Health Bucks, and HealthFirst OTC (select plans). -SNAP/EBT recipients get a daily Health Bucks match of up to $10 for fruits and veggies, further boosting their purchasing power! -At the end of each day, all unsold food is donated to deeply-rooted community groups at the forefront of fighting hunger locally. Why it matters: Farmstands create a more equitable food system by offering affordable, high-quality local food to all New Yorkers while ensuring farmers receive fair prices. 💚 Your support makes all this possible! Donate to GrowNYC at https://lnkd.in/eUy9CV5 and help us continue this vital work.

Thank you cari borja for including GrowNYC! We were honored to attend the Climate Hope Food School Lunch and the launch of the School Supported Agriculture campaign. The opening of our new NYS Regional Food Hub will create critical infrastructure for an alternative regional food system that supports family farms and gets fresh food into underserved communities. We look forward our continued and deepening partnership.
and this happened yesterday, after Climate Food Hope “school lunch” at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History… a walk to the mall. “This is the power of gathering: it inspires us, delightfully, to be more hopeful, more joyful, more thoughtful: in a word, more alive.” -Alice Waters // “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has". - Margaret Mead // what a week… one more thing, and then home 🤎

What an inspiring day at the Climate Education for Sustainable Cities event on Governors Island! Hosted by GrowNYC, The Trust for Governors Island, UNESCO, and the NY Climate Exchange, this unique gathering for NYC Climate Week was a true celebration of innovation and collaboration. We kicked off the day with dynamic panel discussions featuring expert voices. Our very own Director of Education, Daneille Foster-Russell, participated in the panel “Climate Change & Cities,” which discussed the pressing need for climate change education and the necessary steps for cities and countries to adapt. Outside, attendees witnessed NYC's climate-resilient entrepreneurs in action, showcasing innovative solutions through hands-on demonstrations. The day wrapped up beautifully at GrowNYC’s one-acre Teaching Garden, where everyone enjoyed light refreshments and had the perfect opportunity to network and reflect on the day’s insights. Thank you to all who joined us! Together, we’re paving the way for sustainable cities and a brighter future. 💚 📸: Julienne Schaer

We were thrilled to launch Climate Week with a Garden Party celebrating our partnerships, supporters, and volunteers. Thanks Emily Chase for coming out to Governors Island!
Last year, I didn’t know where to begin for Climate Week NYC. This year, I promised myself I wouldn’t miss out! What did I get up to? I was lucky to be involved in the event planning for Rainforest Alliance’s suite of events and be invited to a handful of others. Here were my top 5: 🌱 A Garden Party hosted by GrowNYC! Farm tours, fresh food, and great music. A sunny afternoon spent on Governor’s Island is always an afternoon well spent. Thank you for the invite Anne O. Craig! ♻️ “Discover How NYC’s Top Brands Address Sustainability Within Their Supply Chain” hosted by OnePointFive (opf.degree). A fabulous panel featuring women sustainability leaders in the beauty and household product industries. Great to catch up with Denise Devlyn, Kathryn Mock, John Carroll, and Christy Ha! ☕️ “Brewing Solutions: Coffee and Climate Resilience” hosted by my very own team at the Rainforest Alliance. Our expert panel showcased the breadth of climate work happening across the coffee supply chain from farmer to company. It was great to enjoy a cup of delicious coffee from Joe Coffee Company with our alliance! 🌊 “Dive into our Oceans” hosted by Futerra in collaboration with filmmaker, James Honeyborne. An exclusive premiere of the Netflix docuseries, “Our Oceans.” Added to my must-watch list!! 🏔️ “Beer Saves the World” hosted by Patagonia at their SoHo store. An evening dedicated to learning about Kernza, a perennial wheat alternative, and good beer! Cheers!
