    🤝 At Guardian Alliance Technologies, we're continuously searching for ways to support law enforcement agencies in identifying the best recruits. In a recent conversation with Joe Monroe, Chief of Police at the University of Kentucky, he shared some invaluable insights into essential skills for law enforcement candidates heading into 2024. Joe emphasized the importance of customer service and communication skills. He noted, "The next-gen officer has to be focused on customer service. They need to know how to communicate and talk with people. Today's recruits often lack proficient writing skills because they mostly communicate through social media, using their own language of words, terminologies, and emojis." 🌟 One aha moment from Joe's approach was his innovative interview technique. Instead of sticking to standard police questions, Joe asks candidates about their passions and then challenges them to teach him about it. "I encourage them to go to a whiteboard and outline how they would teach me about their passion. This makes them think critically and quickly, showing me their ability to make snap decisions," Joe explained. This method has proven effective in identifying recruits who can handle high-pressure situations, a crucial skill for law enforcement officers.     🙌 At Guardian Alliance Technologies, we're dedicated to supporting law enforcement agencies as they navigate the evolving recruitment landscape. Recently, we had an insightful conversation with Joe Monroe, Chief of Police at the University of Kentucky, about emerging trends and priorities for 2024. Joe highlighted the vital shift in recruitment strategies: "Historically, we've relied on traditional methods like billboards and job fairs, but these just aren't working anymore. The next generation workforce is looking for jobs online, on social media, and through various apps. We've got to gear our efforts towards these platforms." To adapt, Joe's department partnered with All-Star Talent, creating effective recruiting videos and running targeted Facebook ads. This pivot resulted in applications skyrocketing from about ten per position to over 100. It's clear that leveraging technology and social media data can transform recruitment processes. 👉 Retention is equally crucial. "Pay is important, but the top priority for the next generation is work-life balance," Joe observed. By adopting flexible scheduling and modern management practices, akin to those used at Google, Joe's department has seen significant improvements in retention. Innovative incentives have also made a difference. Joe implemented a recruitment bonus program where officers receive bonuses if their recruits stay for three years. This approach fosters teamwork and enhances retention rates. Historically, law enforcement has offered mediocre pay, which isn't attractive to potential recruits," Joe highlighted. By increasing starting salaries by $20,000 across the board, Joe's agency saw applications rise tenfold. This kind of strategic move can initiate a 'salary arms race,' driving up comparative salaries across the state and enhancing the appeal of law enforcement careers. ✅ Joe also discussed the critical issue of public perception. "The perception of law enforcement has taken major blows over the years, especially in the last five. Changing this perception hinges on customer service—treating everyone with dignity and respect." By adopting this approach, agencies can foster better community relationships and improve their public image. ✅ Finally, Joe touched on the evolving expectations of the modern workforce. "Today's recruits often view their job as just a paycheck and are less inclined to work overtime or long hours. Luis acknowledged the challenges but reaffirmed their commitment: "The number of suicides, PTSD cases, anxiety, and depression among police officers is astronomical. We are actively pursuing ways to provide the same level of speed and access for behavioral health as well. It's a difficult project, but we have willing partners across the country who want to help us figure this out."
