GOOD NEWS: Apple just released iOS 18.2 beta👀 and FINALLY has Mail app with built-in categorizations. GREAT part is in the upper right corner of Mail app, you can swap list view that shows all emails in chronological order, without separation into categories. This is NEW! More here…
Below are the details of how the categorizations coming together….
➡️My two cents so far now that we can see how it will all work:
VERY happy to see that there is now an easy toggle to see ‘all mail’ view. I think this will cut down on the adoption rate of the categories (which I am happy about).
Also, VERY happy to see ‘Newsletters’ not being sent directly into ‘Promotions’ but into ‘Updates’ instead. Brands will really need to make sure email newsletters have the ‘human tone’ to avoid going into the ‘Promotions’ bucket.
Ok, now onto the details…
With the release of the iOS 18.2 betas today, Apple has updated the Mail app to include built-in categorization.
Mail Categories sort your incoming emails into different sections.
Important emails are displayed in the “Primary” category, while orders, newsletters, social notifications, and deals are organized into three additional sections.
The “Transactions” section contains receipts, orders, and deliveries, making it easy to locate your orders and their shipping information.
The “Updates” section features newsletters, alerts for appointments, correspondence, and other subscription emails.
Apple’s “Promotions” category is dedicated to special offers and deal emails.
Currently, categorization appears to be a work in progress, which is expected during the beta phase. Emails may be mis-categorized or appear in multiple categories, but Apple is likely to refine this feature over time.
