Our newest single family affordable home build at 13 Hawley St. in Worcester is making great progress! The foundation is in, and framing of the mud sills and main beam are underway. The footing drain and interior French drains are installed. Next up will be damp pròofing the outside and backfilling. A huge thank you to our volunteers for donating their time to benefit another local family! Want to volunteer? Visit https://lnkd.in/e36_Qase. No experience necessary to give back to those in our community who need a safe and affordable home! #HabitatforHumanityMetroWestGreaterWorcester #AffordableHome #Volunteers #ThankYou

About us
Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester’s mission is to build homes, communities, and hope. We are dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally through constructing, rehabilitating, and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families gain strength, stability and self-reliance through affordable housing. At Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester (HFH-MW/GW), our motto is “a hand up, not a handout.” We build houses with families, not for them. We partner with hardworking families who earn between 30% – 60% of the area median income and do not qualify for other homeownership programs. Not only do Habitat families pay for their homes through an affordable monthly mortgage, they also put in between 400 and 500 hours of sweat equity prior to becoming homeowners. In addition, families must attend financial education classes, provided by HFH MW/GW. Habitat homes are built in partnership with donors and funders, and the volunteer labor of over 3,000 individuals in a calendar year. We serve local families and Veterans in 42 cities and towns throughout MetroWest and Greater Worcester. Our programs include Home Builds, Operation Playhouse, and Home Repairs for local families and veterans. HFH MW/GW operates two ReStores in our service area. The Worcester ReStore is located at 640 Lincoln Street, Suite 100 and the Ashland ReStore is located at 310 Pond Street. One-hundred percent of the revenue from our ReStores benefits our mission to build homes, communities, and hope for local families and Veterans. Visit our ReStores to find treasures and bargains – or donate your used items that are in good condition to help keep our landfills clear. Hooray for Staples whose teams built two playhouses for the children of New England veteran families! Great teams – and great teamwork! We are so fortunate to have generous and caring partners who take the time to participate in Operation Playhouse to honor veterans. Thank you to Staples, and to all veteran families for their courage and sacrifice. We are proud to offer this unique, fun and rewarding program to give back to veterans. #HabitatforHumanityMetroWestGreaterWorcester #Staples #OperationPlayhouse #Veterans #VeteranFamilies

Our Home Repair program helps families who are struggling to maintain their homes due to age, disability, or family circumstances. Recently we received an application from an elderly gentleman who had fallen through the boards of his rotted deck causing him to receive 37 sutures in his leg. We are so happy to report that we could replace his deck. He said, “The outcome of the project was better than I could ever envision. Paul’s leadership was amazing, Norma was delightful to work with, and the outcome is gorgeous. At the end of the project, the staff and volunteers surprised me with a rocking chair that I now use ALL the time. Another day, another beautiful playhouse! Thank you to Saint-Gobain whose team built a sweet sky-blue playhouse with a sunny yellow door for the children of a veteran. What a perfect summertime treat. We are grateful to Saint Gobain, a generous partner, and to veteran and military families who keep us safe! Some of our nicest thoughts are of the wonderful families we help. We think of Rebecca, whose journey was marked by adversity, and who now lives in a safe and affordable home with her two daughters. She believes “that home and hope” are separated by just one letter. And we think of Sophie and Mark, who lived in an apartment on a busy street with 3 autistic boys, but who now live in a safe and affordable home. Sophie notes: “There are no words to express our thanks. Hopefully the smile on our boys’ faces tells you, even if they don’t have the words.” Our homeowners go through so much, yet come out the other side with renewed spirit and positivity. Fun and important fact! Working alongside volunteers, our Habitat homeowners help build and then purchase their houses. They make monthly payments on an affordable mortgage, which in turn helps us build more homes. Our homeowners gain strength, stability, and self-reliance, our communities are improved, and the process pays it forward so that other families can live in a safe and affordable home. Gridwealth, a Sudbury based energy resources company, is donating solar panels to the 2 homes we are building at 521-523 Sunderland Rd. “Collaborating with HFHMWGW gives us the opportunity to live our values and do our part to level the playing field, one family at a time, starting right here at home”, said Quincy Vale, chairman and president. With solar panels, the 2 families will benefit from long term energy cost savings, allowing them to allocate more resources toward their financial security. THANK YOU, Gridwealth! Your goals align with ours to make our communities a better and affordable place to live for all! #HabitatforHumanityMetroWestGreaterWorcester #Gridwealth #AffordableHomes #Donate
