We build strength, stability, and independence through affordable homeownership.

About us

Habitat for Humanity Portland Region builds affordable and sustainable homes, and empowers people through successful homeownership. Founded in 1981, Habitat for Humanity Portland Region serves Multnomah, east Washington, and northern Clackamas counties. We believe that everyone deserves a decent, affordable place to call home – especially those historically left out of homeownership. We are the largest developer of affordable homes for sale in the Portland region, working with our community to build and repair more than 100 homes each year, from Gresham to Hillsboro. Sale prices are based on a lasting affordable model which ensures that the home is affordable not only to the first buyer but future generations as well. All who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people. At Habitat for Humanity, our vision is a world where everyone — every person, every family, every child — has a decent and affordable place to call home.

Updates

  • 📢 Update on the new East Portland TIF districts! Wednesday’s public hearing included a lot of supportive testimony about affordable rental housing and solid discussion about homeownership. Commissioner Mingus Mapps indicated that he intends to introduce an amendment to set a target for homeownership spending in the new East Portland TIFs. “There are two powerful variables which explain racial inequality in the United States and that’s education and homeownership. This council only has kind of marginal influence on education but, boy, we have a heck of a lot of influence on homeownership,” Mapps said. What’s next? City Council will vote on Wednesday, October 30. Let's continue to work for affordable housing and homeownership in East Portland! • Our President & CEO Steve Messinetti recently joined an inspiring group of nonprofits for Bank of America’s Neighborhood Builders Leadership Program. Habitat was selected along with Micro Enterprise Services of Oregon (MESO) as the 2023 awardees from Oregon. MESO Director Cobi Lewis and Habitat’s Director of Volunteer Programs, Bri Lopez, also attended the outstanding leadership training in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Neighborhood Builders award includes a $200,000 unrestricted grant. This generous funding will help launch Habitat’s Advancing Black Homeownership Initiative in the Portland region, prioritizing a significant investment in equitable housing. A huge thank you to Bank of America for this incredible support. We’re excited to continue building a better Portland, together!

  • How good does this home look in green!? 😍 Our Home Repair team replaced rotting siding, and painted the entire exterior to help preserve it. They also put in new window flashing, gutters, downspouts, and built a gate for the backyard. We partner with homeowners to alleviate health and safety issues and complete critical home improvements. If you’re a homeowner living on a limited income in Portland, Washington County, or northern Clackamas County, you may qualify for services through our Home Repair Program. • Today and every day, we honor the original inhabitants of the land we occupy and call home. There are nearly 70,000 Native descendants from over 380 tribes living in this region today. We acknowledge the colonization of Indigenous land and the discriminatory history of housing. These injustices excluded, silenced, and exploited Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), and other marginalized communities and continue to cause harm today. We believe that everyone deserves a decent place to live and equitable access to housing. We commit to justice, equity, and leveraging our collective duty as stewards of this land - https://lnkd.in/gRFWRswz
