In Sub-Saharan Africa, around 60% of the population does not use mobile internet despite living in an area with coverage. Smartphone affordability is a key barrier to using mobile internet in the region. We're now enrolling smallholder farmers into our program. We're excited to partner with FarmIT, an agri-tech startup that leverages earth observation tools to generate agricultural insights for farmers. With Hagush's financing program, farmers get access to affordable devices. By thinking, writing, and advancing the right narratives, we work to demystify existing structures and systems that create and perpetuate poverty, explore pathways to real systemic and structural change anchored on building a world where everyone can and will do well, and promote existing work addressing the root causes of poverty. ******************* Pay Later: Our First Solution: Recognizing the power of information and communication technology in advancing all the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we've co-designed a digital inclusion solution with tech startups and community organization in the Global South. Pay Later is a digital technology financing service democratizing digital device access in Kenya, Ethiopia, and Uganda. Pay Later is enabling the impact of local tech startups and advancing SGD 1 (No Poverty), SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SGD 4 (Quality Education), SGD 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SGD 13 (Climate Action).

Our LendForGood impact loan campaign is live! You can watch our raise video and a live Q&A recording with our founder Nadait Gebremedhen, MD, where she talks about our work in Kenya, what we aim to do with the loan, and how we plan to scale our impact. With this loan, Hagush is planning to provide 200 more smallholder farmers in Kenya smartphone financing. Crucially, all farmers will also get access to the FarmIT app, a technology that will double their agricultural yield and increase their income by an average of $3000 annually. We’re thrilled to announce the successful completion of our pilot program, which was launched June of 2023. In the pilot, we provided interest-free financing for laptops to four refugees in Kenya. All participants have now successfully paid off the cost of the technology. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and we’re excited to scale our efforts across Sub-Saharan Africa.
