Hanson worked on two major power projects in the 2010s. For Xcel Energy Inc.'s CapX2020 transmission line crossing the Mississippi River from near Wabasha, Minnesota, to Alma, Wisconsin, Hanson designed five tower foundations and assisted with geotechnical, hydraulic and structural engineering services. This project sustained electric service reliability and upgraded the transmission system to support more renewable energy in the Upper Midwest. For Ameren Transmission Co. of Illinois’ Illinois Rivers Project transmission line, Hanson provided geotechnical, structural, civil and hydraulic engineering services for the 1.56-mile Herleman-Maywood Mississippi River crossing. This is part of a 375-mile, 345-kilovolt transmission line running from near Palmyra, Missouri, across Illinois to the Indiana state line. The $1.4 billion project focused on helping improve the reliability of the nation's electric grid and providing the capacity needed to support new power generation, including renewable energy. Hanson worked with Ameren to determine the optimal foundation type for the crossing: an all-steel design precluding the need for concrete. #TBT #anniversary #power #project #energy
