We're excited to announce that our team at Hartford HealthCare Research has successfully completed our first case in the AVENTUS clinical trial! Dr. Joseph Ingrassia, Dr. Saurabh Joshi, and Dr. Omar Yacob, along with our dedicated research coordinator Vicky MacLeod, are leading the way in evaluating an innovative thrombectomy device for treating pulmonary embolism (PE). The AVENTUS System, developed by Inquis Medical, Inc., features an innovative design that may improve procedure safety and effectiveness while reducing procedure time. This device builds on proven thrombectomy processes while introducing advanced features for targeted blood clot removal. With over 10 million PE cases globally each year, this research is crucial for advancing treatment options. This trial is another example of how our research program at Hartford HealthCare consistently brings cutting-edge treatment options to our community. By participating in clinical trials like AVENTUS, we ensure our patients have access to tomorrow's medical innovations today, all while receiving comprehensive care. We're proud to continue our tradition of pioneering medical research and look forward to sharing more updates as the trial progresses. #CardiovascularResearch #MedicalInnovation #HartfordHealthCareResearch

How does preoperative frailty impact weight loss after metabolic and bariatric surgery? Our study showed that having multiple frailty deficits before surgery is associated with an increased risk of suboptimal weight loss after either sleeve gastrectomy or Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. If you want to learn more, check out our newly published paper: https://lnkd.in/e4nV6Xx5 Big thanks to everyone who helped make this paper happen, especially Dr. Pavlos Papasavas, Dr. Dale Bond, and Dr. Darren Tishler, MD for their invaluable support. New Study Advances Pain Management in Thoracic Surgery We're proud to highlight a recent publication in Cureus Journal of Medical Science: "POSSEBLiTY: Continuous Serratus Anterior Versus Erector Spinae Plane Block Catheters for Postoperative Pain Management Following Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS): A Retrospective Study" This retrospective study compared Continuous Erector Spinae Plane Block (CESPB) and Continuous Serratus Anterior Plane Block (CSAPB) for pain management after Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery. Results of the study show that while both techniques offer benefits, the Erector Spinae Plane Block demonstrated superior analgesic effects, supporting its continued use in VATS postoperative care. Congratulations to Dr. Carla Maffeo-Mitchell for her leadership as the principal investigator and to co-authors Katherine Davis, Sarah Vincze, Ya-Huei Li, Ilene Staff, Aseel Walker, MD, Edmund Takata, and Kevin Finkel for their invaluable contributions. And congratulations to Katherine Davis, who presented a study poster at the 77th Post Graduate Assembly in Anesthesiology! This research marks a significant advancement in improving patient care following thoracic surgery. We're excited to see its impact on clinical practice and future research! #HartfordHealthCareResearch #PainManagement #ThoracicSurgery #Anesthesiology
