In the coming days and weeks, we'll share their #StudentStories. Abdullah Helal, a 2nd-year MPA/ID student at Harvard Kennedy School, conducted a comparative analysis of sovereign wealth funds and their role in economic development while embedded in Baku, Azerbaijan. In this blog, Abdullah explains why he applied for our internship, his research, the challenges he faced, his most exciting experiences, and he offers advice to future interns. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e8UdVen6

Former U.S. Assistant Secretary, Economic Development Administration. Servant leader, social impact advocate and disruptor
Among the key challenges in driving inclusive and equitable economic development is the necessity to provide capacity building tools and methods in distressed and underserved communities. Grateful to Nathan Ohle for sharing insights with the audience at the Institute of Politics at Harvard Kennedy School and Harvard's Growth Lab. Nathan, an experienced economic development practitioner, offered valuable perspectives on the obstacles and prospects encountered by communities in formulating strategies, policies, and programs to establish sustainable ecosystems for economic growth. Thank you Nathan for your work leading International Economic Development Council and for providing researchers, faculty, graduate and undergraduate students a chance to understand the challenges and opportunities to drive growth in communities across America. Huge shout out to the IOP leadership and team for making this all happen. Setti Warren, Kimberly Peeples, Taylor Woods-Gauthier, Zoe Anderson

We are excited about this opportunity and eager to share insights from our research! Congrats to Frank Neffke and Ljubica Nedelkoska, two long-time contributors to the Growth Lab's research agenda.
The Complexity Science Hub is proud to join forces with Harvard's Growth Lab and Central European University in a pioneering research initiative, the Growth CoLab. Together, we're tackling critical public policy issues, from global #migrant integration to supporting displaced #Ukrainians in Austria and Germany. Led by Ljubica Nedelkoska and Frank Neffke, the Growth CoLab is pushing the boundaries of research to empower governments and students alike. The collaboration offers public policy students hands-on experience in cutting-edge quantitative research, making real-world impact. The Growth CoLab was officially launched yesteday by faculty, researchers, students, and representatives from CSH, CEU and the Growth Lab. Nedelkoska led the launch event at CEU's Department of Public Policy. The three organizations presented their academic and policy research, as well as the potential of the initiative, led by Michael Dorsch, head of CEU's Department of Public Policy; Ricardo Hausmann, director of the Growth Lab; and Philipp Marxgut, secretary general of CSH. Neffke discussed the opportunities for research and learning that the collaboration offers. The Growth Lab's Eric Protzer and Matte Hartog, as well as students Masuma Sultani and Philipp Alexander Steininger, presented their contributions to the project examining the role of displaced Ukrainians in Austria and Germany. A big thank you to Department of Public Policy at Central European University for hosting such an enjoyable event! ➡️https://bit.ly/3MC89bR #GrowthCoLab #PublicPolicy #ResearchCollaboration #EconomicGrowth
