This past Wednesday, we enjoyed a wonderful presentation from Norma Baynes and Laura Lee Petritz on their community organization, the SHILOH COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION. The Shiloh community, established in the 1870s and relocated to its current site in the 1890s, spans about 240 acres, includes 1,200 houses, and is home to 5,699 residents. It is the oldest African American community in Asheville. In 2005, the Shiloh Community Association applied for and received its 501(c)(3) status as a nonprofit organization. The Shiloh Community Association needs YOUR help! Currently, they are building a resource center with office space for the SCA, residential business incubation, classroom and community meeting space, a certified kitchen and more resources for neighborhood.
