Sometimes you have to get the important things done, and at one time! Our employees recently took part in a one-stop shop rodeo to take care of competencies, learning modules, vaccines, paperwork, and more! A hospital setting has a lot of challenges in scheduling so all of our staff enjoyed the fun and efficient setting. Thank you to everyone who participated and our amazing HR staff and Nurse Educator who helped put this together!
October has been an amazing month for our trainings! We were honored to have jemma lambert, MPA come by our facility and run two sessions for our employees on De-Escalation and understanding the "upset brain". Our employees loved learning new tactics for approaching difficult situations and some of the science behind what is happening. Congrats to our two employees who also won the PTO raffle!
As stated by the National Institutes of Health, depression affects roughly 6% of seniors over 60 and up to 27% of those over 85. Unfortunately, many older adults do not receive a proper diagnosis because symptoms can look like age-related changes, such as fatigue, loss of appetite, and cognitive decline. Early detection of these signs is vital for effective support and enhanced well-being.
October brings us Red Ribbon Week, a vital opportunity to educate our communities about substance abuse prevention. This year's theme, "Life Is a Movie, Film Drug Free" emphasizes the importance of living a drug-free life. Let's empower our impressionable youth to choose wellness! Research from the National Library of Medicine shows that up to 4.4% of adults meet the criteria for ADHD, yet less than 20% receive a proper diagnosis or treatment. In adults, ADHD symptoms can manifest in less obvious ways, such as forgetfulness, difficulty concentrating, and restlessness. If you spot these signs in yourself, consulting a mental health professional can help. Awareness is key to understanding ADHD! Click here for helpful resources: http://ow.ly/EEB5105Ll79
We can't thank Helen Sheehan, her charity Eammon's Heart, and Rebecca Pichardo from Mass General Brigham enough for their amazing and informative presentation on addiction AND their life-saving training on the use of NARCAN. Between two sessions we now have over FIFTY staff members trained and ready to be an essential part of their community. Each staff member left with the knowledge and confidence to make a difference in a difficult situation as well as two doses of the drug to keep in their car or home. If your organization is looking for a truly life-saving training, please drop Eammon's Heart a line!
