#MissionMomentMonday: Hearing the "Sound of Success" bell ring from our fifth-floor Inpatient Rehabilitation Center is a sound we always take joy in hearing. It is a symbol of strength, recovery, and the teamwork from both our patients and our care teams to reach this milestone. Recently, a first-time stroke patient was able to ring the bell upon her discharge after an almost two-week stay with us. “It was nerve-wracking,” she says, referencing the experience of her first stroke. Upon her arrival at our Inpatient Rehab Center, she was unable to do many of the basic tasks she could before her stroke, such as walking and even eating, and required a feeding tube. With daily therapy in our rehabilitation gym and the expertise from her care team, our patient was feeling comfortable and encouraged to gain back her independence and resume her normal activities. “Alicia (Physical Therapist) can bring you back from anywhere, no matter where you’re at. Everyone communicates well and has been so open and welcoming to both myself and my husband when he comes to visit. I’ve had a comfortable and pleasant experience and look forward to getting back home to do all my normal activities on my own.” Our patients receive a minimum of three hours of therapy per day, five days a week with our team of physical, occupational, and speech therapists. Our goal when patients enter our inpatient rehab program is to help return them to their everyday activities by creating a personal and individualized plan, so all of our patients can ring the bell. The BEE Award is awarded to our essential support team members for Being Exceptional Every Day. Exceptional only begins to describe our 2nd quarter BEE award winner, Dennis Noel from patient transport. Dennis is not only a transporter, but one of the first faces our patients see, and he always does it with a smile. Dennis was previously a PCT on our 2nd floor. His current director says getting him on to her transport team was one of the best decisions she has ever made. Dennis says his philosophy is to be a source of comfort to his patients. “Something as simple as holding their hand”. We are grateful for Dennis!
