In an announcement by Dermavant Sciences, new clinical data was presented from the open-label, long-term extension study of ADORING 3 for tapinarof cream, 1% (Vtama) treatment of adults and children as young as 2 years with atopic dermatitis. ICYMI: 12-month data from the APPEAR-C3G phase 3 trial was presented at the American Society of Nephrology's #KidneyWk, offering new insight into the effects of iptacopan (Fabhalta; Novartis) in patients with C3 glomerulopathy. Building on the previously reported 6-month data, these results indicate a statistically significant reduction in proteinuria and a favorable safety profile. According to study investigator Carla Nester, MD, of the University of Iowa, these findings represent "a pivotal advancement for C3G management,” as they provide data on longer-term treatment targeting the underlying disease mechanism via the alternative complement pathway. Can AI enhance physician diagnostic accuracy? A recent study, led by Ethan G., MBBS, MS, from the Center for Biomedical Informatics Research at Stanford University School of Medicine, suggests more research is needed to determine the potential and limitations of AI in clinical practice. Large language models outperformed physicians in complex cases but did not significantly improve diagnostic accuracy or reasoning when used as aids alongside conventional resources.
