The Healing Our Waters-Great Lakes Coalition’s mission is to secure a sustainable Great Lakes restoration plan and the federal funding to implement it. Healthy lakes and healthy people go hand in hand. The Healing Our Waters-Great Lakes Coalition will endeavor to make our work more relevant and impactful by ensuring that the people of the region have access to clean, affordable, and safe drinking water; can eat fish that are not toxic; and are able to live healthy lives that are not undermined by pollution. Equity in our work means we will strive to intentionally include those who have been historically excluded—specifically people of color and people from impoverished backgrounds—and work to break down barriers to their inclusion within the Great Lakes community, so that the Great Lakes can be enjoyed and used by people now and for generations to come.

On July 1, the States of Michigan and Illinois signed a historic partnership agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to cosponsor construction of the Brandon Road Project, which will install a series of anti-carp technologies at the Brandon Road Lock and Dam in Illinois – substantially reducing the risk of invasive carp becoming established in the Great Lakes. The GLFT has supported this priority of the Great Lakes community for nearly two decades providing a series of grants to many of the organizations central to this outcome. "The Great Lakes represents a $2.3 billion fishery for Michigan alone," said Amy Trotter, chief executive officer for Michigan United Conservation Clubs, and Great Lakes Fishery Trust Board Member. "Congratulations to Governor Pritzker, and all the Great Lakes partners for finalizing this important project to protect the Great Lakes from invasive carp." #InvasiveCarp #GreatLakes #fisheries

On July 1, Illinois and Michigan signed a historic agreement with the US Army Corps of Engineers to keep invasive carp out of the Great Lakes. This important measure will protect the Great Lakes for generations with the installment of anti-carp technologies at the Brandon Road Lock and Dam in Illinois.
