An insightful post from HL7's Chief Standards Development Officer, Dr. Dan Vreeman, on his experience at this year's #HLTHUSA conference and his thoughts on how #HL7 #FHIR is leading the charge toward a more connected, data-driven future.
Back from #HLTHUSA 2024, and one thing is clear — #interoperability and open standards are the driving forces behind healthcare’s digital transformation. As the landscape evolves, it’s exciting to see how #HL7 #FHIR is leading the charge toward a more connected, data-driven future. At HLTH, I had the opportunity to explore how HL7 FHIR is fueling digital health innovation by removing barriers to data sharing and integration, streamlining workflows, and providing the foundation for real-time insights that drive innovation. The conversations and insights from the event made it clear that the potential for HL7 FHIR to reshape the industry is immense, not just in theory but in practical, scalable solutions that we are already seeing in action. Moving forward, the momentum behind open standards will be critical to healthcare transformation. HL7 FHIR is at the center of this shift, laying the foundation for AI-driven data models, real-time predictive analytics, and the integration of new data sources outside traditional healthcare. It’s no longer a question of "if" but "how fast" we can drive these innovations to deliver real-world impact. As leaders in this field, we must continue to champion open standards and ensure we are building the infrastructure necessary to support this innovation on a global scale.
